It has been some time now that smaller versions of cupcakes have become quite popular with food lovers, irrespective of the age. Be it children, the teenagers or adults and seniors, there is rarely anyone who does not love cupcakes. The tiny little wonders of cake pieces, swirled with colourful frostings and edible décor make them lure people like moth to a fire. Coming in various shapes and sizes, the bakers leave no stone unturned to be at their creative best while creating various cupcakes. As they say, all good things in life come in small packages, the cupcake is one proof for that where most of the times no one can stop at one.

Here is a roundup of some of the best cupcakes in Kolkata which have made their mark in the hearts as well as the tastebuds of the food lovers.

Everybody knows Mrs. Magpie. A quintessential English tea shop, Mrs. Magpie has earned its name as the authority in cute little cupcakes. And their cupcakes are loaded with oodles of frosted love. Sweet and salty, peanut butter, marshmallow, cinnamon apple, cherry n cream cheese; the list is endless, you name it and they have it. They have their cupcakes in butter frosting as well as marzipan and most of them have some hidden fillings inside. The Rouge, a cake shop around the corner of AJC Bose Road, offers cupcakes in mini and regular sizes. Although they are known for their macaroons, however the ever gorgeous red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting and chocolate truffle frosting is truly magical. Some unique flavours in their menu are key lime and crème brulée and they also offer eggless cupcakes.

8th Day Cafe and Bakery, an American coffee house, in the heart of the city has many things baked. They do not have a wide variety of cupcakes, but their salted caramel cupcakes are a must have for all cupcake lovers. They are filled with buttery and caramel goodness in every bite. Paris cafe, started with one small outlet at Ballygunge area and has now expanded to two other locations and in a larger perspective, has some tempting and heavenly baked goodies including the red velvet cupcake and Oreo Nutella cupcake which are an absolute hit.

Cocoa Bakery, a lush bakery at a very posh location stocks a few varieties of cupcakes, that are definitely worth trying. Red velvet cupcakes, which seem to be a hot favourite in the city have tiny little pink hearts on the cream cheese frosting. They have some vanilla and chocolate cupcakes decorated with marzipan and some with colourful fondant frosting which make these simple cupcakes very enticing. Krazy for Chocolates, a pure vegetarian cake shop is a bliss for the vegetarian community. They have cute and interesting cupcakes in simple flavours and eye catching and fancy decorations. One can even order cupcakes in advance in any particular flavour they want from this place.
