Top 7 Restaurants to visit in Chandigarh with theme-based decor

The seas to hills, Egypt to Goa, restaurants in Chandigarh are seeking inspiration from all corners for their decor!

The seas to hills, Egypt to Goa, restaurants in Chandigarh are seeking inspiration from all corners for their decor!

Apart from a winning menu, what truly makes a restaurant stand out is its interiors. Gone are the days when all it took to please diners were tables with crisp linen and some artwork on the walls. Theme-based decor options seem to be trending in Chandigarh and restaurateurs are leaving no stone unturned to make the decor and the ambience a talking point. Here are the places that caught our attention.

Pyramid, Elante Mall, Chandigarh Industrial Area

The name is a give away to the interiors of this bar and lounge. While King Tutankhamun’s bust has been incorporated in the logo, tall statues lead the way to Pyramid. The distinct Egyptian theme is hard to miss with Cleopatra taking centre stage at the bar. While the menu is primarily the Mediterranean, you can not miss the hieroglyphs on the walls and the artwork too. The place lights up at night and transports you well back in time!

Boathouse, Elante Mall, Chandigarh Industrial Area

It is one of the newest arrivals this year and thankfully, it has made sincere efforts to stand out from the crowd. Boathouse, housed near the courtyard area of Elante Mall, makes the most of its space – it is spread over 2 levels and is perhaps the first microbrewery in the city that has a theme. True to its name, the Boathouse has a refreshing nautical theme. From the decor, wall accents, furniture to even the serveware, the sea theme is followed to the T.

Wasabi, Sector 7, Chandigarh

A new arrival, Wasabi is a fusion Pan Asian restaurant and it takes its Oriental theme seriously. The red interiors and interesting artwork is hard to miss. But what is truly eye-catching are the murals that dot the restaurant’s walls. There are many Instagram-able backdrops here including a Samurai on one wall. The seating is also played around with – you could choose the family-friendly round tables or the sofas along the wall.

Social, Chandigarh

Spread across two levels, Sector 7 Social has various themes running through the restaurant. From a secret tram entrance at the rear of the building to tight pockets of spaces leading to a large amphitheatre like courtyard with stadium seating and an outdoor bar, Sector 7 Social is a maze of spaces. It almost instantly has you reaching for your phone. The quirky elements reflect in the serveware as well.

Cottage, Sector 7, Chandigarh

Don’t we all love the hills and the close proximity Chandigarh has to it? Bringing a slice of the hills, a cottage, in particular, is this modern European restaurant called Cottage. Housed in Sector 7, Cottage has everything from cobbled floors, a sloping roof to a working fireplace and a cosy ambience. You will love the menu too that brings in stellar coffee and meals.

Virgin Courtyard, Sector 7, Chandigarh

A sun-washed courtyard, tranquil setting of pebbled pathways and fine Italian cuisine give Virgin Courtyard a distinct identity. The all-white and blue interiors are truly refreshing and we love the fact that the menu matches the mood. The wood-fired oven dishes out quintessential Italian pizzas and the Sangria will set you in the mood.
