Gordhan Thal is one of the popular restaurants serving Gujarati thali in Ahmedabad. It offers unlimited traditional Gujarati Thali for a fairly reasonable price of Rs 300 plus taxes. The place is done up in traditional royal Gujarati style with carved wooden panels, filigree wooden arches and swords mounted on the walls. The stewards are dressed in traditional Gujarati attire with kurtas and turbans. The food here is mostly Gujarati cuisine with maybe a few North Indian dishes thrown in like a Paneer vegetable. Most of the other dishes are very tasty. The thali has two snacks (farsans), two sweets, three-four vegetables, dal, Kadhi, rice, rotis, pooris, etc. But the restaurant really needs to improve on its cleanliness and secondly, the staff does need to tone down their voices during service while communicating with each other. It can get very noisy in the restaurant since there is a lot of staff and also there are many tables placed close together. In fact, the restaurant serves anywhere from 1100 to 1500 people both at lunch and also dinner on any given day which means it is always crowded.
