The success of the Mamagoto chain demonstrates the value of spotting a trend early and sticking with it. The Delhi original recognised that Pan-Asian (rather than just Chinese) would be the trend of the future and served tasty and reasonably authentic South East Asian dishes at friendly prices in a noisy environment. Now, Mamagoto is a national phenomenon and the Bangalore outpost stick closely to the formula. The food can be surprisingly good and ingredients are fresh and flavourful. But for many of the guests, the vibe — low lighting, music and lots of conversations — is as important as the food.
