One of the earlier restaurants to open in the inner market of Sector 7, Chandigarh, Scola (earlier known as Gusto) has recently revamped their menu and space. Styled like cafe or bistro, Scola sits easy on the eyes. There is minimal use of colour or unnecessary props. You will find some the shelves lined with books and board games stacked in another. The casual cafe vibe is hard to miss. The menu, on the other hand, tries hard to pack in a good mix of Continental and some Asian fare. A seasonal menu is always on offer. Given the cold wave, we decided to warm up with a 'Khao Suey'. The Scola version of this Burmese staple is quite off track. The thick soup had an overpowering flavour and was missing some key ingredients. On the chef’s recommendation, we also ordered the 'Chicken Wings'. Unfortunately, the fryer seems to be tweaked too high as the burnt chicken wings in barbeque sauce were sent back to the kitchen and the one with peri peri sauce came exactly the same way - overdone. The much-hyped 'Chicken Burger' was disappointing for its chewy chicken patty. Well, all was not bad on the day we dined. The 'Quinoa Pilaf with Pesto' redeemed Scola for us. I think it will take more than one visit to find your favourites here. The portions are reasonable though service takes a while.
