The Park at Chennai shows its age - your enthusiasm devitalises as you push open those blemished wooden doors. It follows you up the derelict lift and spills onto Aqua. While the original Aqua at Kolkata maintains its chic, if slightly risque air; its Chennai brethren wears a bedraggled vibe, sadly abandoned by the movers and shakers of the city. The rooftop advantage is squandered away by man-high fiberglass along the edges, which manage the ironic ignominy of suffocating you under a starlit sky - sit as far away from the makeshift barbecue as you can. However, if there is one good reason you should visit them, it is their signature cocktail - The Aqua. Banana syrup and Malibu combine in this turquoise drink that, on a balmy Chennai evening, embodies everything Aqua is or should have been.
