Depending on you how long you have lived in Chennai, you could be either oblivious or nostalgic about the Crystal Bar at Hotel Ranjith. The dim space, lit in blue for the (unintentional) Madras-dive-bar effect, is gender and age skewed in a manner that is probably not considered hip. However, as far dive bars go, it remains Chennai’s most accessible and popular one. Just remember to skip the Old Fashioned and Martinis - drink simply and gorge on their delicious Chicken 65, Prawn pepper fry and suitably impassive cheese-cherry-pineapple.
