Taj Connemara underwent a two-year-long renovation and the result is a sparkling new hotel, without losing its colonial charm. The Verandah, the poolside restaurant has been done up, without altering much of the layout, so you still get a nice pool view, a small outdoor seating area which is great when the Chennai weather is forgiving. While predominantly a buffet restaurant, which it is decent at, the renovation has brought in a heritage menu as part of the deal, complete with yesteryear dishes along with the year the dish was in the menu. Unlike most 5 star hotels, Verandah’s dishes are generous in portions, a 'Kheema Dosa' will come in a pack of two, but the kheema inside is good enough for four. When the restaurant is not hounded by large groups, the service is attentive, but the staff tend to get overwhelmed by large groups, so the rest of the tables tend to suffer.
