City Of Joy is, as you might guess, a tribute to the food of Calcutta and West Bengal. Situated just a short hop away from CR Park, it is located on the first floor of a small DDA market. An empty aquarium greets you as you enter City of Joy’s dimly lit and somewhat gloomy dining room. The decor is strictly spartan and might remind of many jaded eateries in the old city. The menu features an all-star cast with a spotlight on seasonal freshwater fish preparations. My 'Diamond Fish Fry' was a generous and snack-ey ‘chop’ with plenty of flaky Bhetki to keep things moist in the middle. A dinner-plate sized portion of 'Prawn Kabiraji' was even more lavish with well-seasoned minced shrimp at the center of the crisp egg and besan batter-fried exterior. My aromatic 'Gobindobhog Kaju Kismis Pulao' complemented the caramelized-onion notes of a thick 'Alur Dom' with juicy, lightly fried 'Begun Bhaja' on the side. A serving of richly sweetened 'Misti Doi' rounded up the feast.
