If exclusivity is the barometer of how happening a nightlife spot is, then 2019 has been Dear Donna’s. The team behind Summer House Café and the soon-to-be-reopened Bohca has perfected the art of pulling in the young and the stylish at Dear Donna. Patrons can choose between a large candle-lit courtyard with hookah service, a glasshouse dining area with small tables and a massive lounge flanking the bar. The kitchen sticks to global-bistro fare with hits and misses. While my juicy 'Greek Keftas' sat pretty atop fresh and well-seasoned labneh, I had to put away the 'Charred Pumpkin and Cream Cheese Kataifi' after discovering that the inner layers of pastry sheet were uncooked. Dear Donna’s signature cocktails are mashups of the classics, such 'The Pornstar Martini' with vodka, lemon and passion fruit juice which is essentially a cosmo served with a shot of bubbly. Whiskey fans will enjoy the 'Peni-Chillin' with scotch, honey, lemon and a spray of smokey Islay single malt. A glass of 'Curious Gin & Tonic', gin paired with vermouth, triple sec and absinthe was refreshing while The 'Chalice' - a summery punch with gin, wine, tea, ginger ale and fruit, is great for lazy sipping on balmy evenings.
