Although Awadhi cuisine is still known and available in a lot of places, Bihari cuisine remains novel, except for litti chokha. Magadh and Awadh, started by a brother and sister duo, attempts to showcase this lustrous cuisine, with traditional recipes at the heart of it all. The walls are also adorned with beautiful paintings from Magadh, and the gold and pink colour scheme emphasise on the royal eras of the region. Start of the meal with a sattu cooler, which has flour dissolved in water and flavoured with onions, coriander and cumin seeds – perfect drink for hot summer days. The infamous littis are available here and served with three different types of chokhas – aubergine, tomato and potato. All, including the littis are roasted on the charcoal grill, giving it a nice smoky flavour. Do try the Darbhanga style fish, which has strong and pungent mustard oil marinade and is cooked till tender and flaky. For the main course, try the besan ki sabzi, which has gram flour pakoras cooked in mustard gravy along with bhuna maas, which has tender pieces of mutton cooked overnight in a traditional tomato onion gravy.
