Your beer experience in the capital just got a tech update. While malt heads have been spoilt for choice in recent years with a spate of microbreweries, taprooms and flavoured brews, beer entrepreneurs are thinking of pampering them further with novel experiences. To that end, The Beer Café has launched a concept called the Pour Your Own Beer (PYOB). To you and me, it means that the café’s beer wall, which comes alive with a mindboggling range of gleaming, silver taps and digital screens and it can now be accessed through a mobile application. The app can be currently used at the beer chain’s Saket and Connaught Place outlets in Delhi. For a sip of your favourite stout, ale or lager, the app is your best friend at this technology-first Saket outfit. Once you download the app on your smartphone, your pour ritual is pretty smooth, just like your favourite brew. At the beer wall, you are required to scan the code present in The Beer Café app, and you are good to go. The digital screen on the wall flashes your name and wallet balance, (yes, it has got a neat name like Brewbucks) that can be linked to your plastic money or mobile wallets. Armed with my newly-downloaded The Beer Café app, I make a mad dash for the beer wall and set things into motion. Once my code is scanned and my wallet balance flashes on the digital screen, I zero in on one of the delightfully frothy brews (there are 16 varieties to sip on) on offer at lightning speed. A dark stout beckons with its roasted barley aroma and I quickly use my app to pour myself the rich chocolate toned concoction. Being a purist, I choose to go the stout way the entire evening but feel free to experiment if you are an adventurous soul. The app allows you to be flexible with the volume of beer you choose to pour and helps you play brewmaster with customised blends. So unleash your creativity and mix everything from wheat and pilsners to lagers and stouts in order to create your perfect pint. And if beer drinking happens to be a slow, sensory exercise for you, you are also allowed to fill just half a mug and come back later for more. So, what seals the deal for this app for beer fiends? Well, you do not have to pay any service charge on the invoice. Besides the app, the café appeals to brew junkies with its thoughtful décor, featuring artefacts like wooden barrels and casks that showcase the brewing process. To top it all, there is a global gastronomic spread to go with your favourite beer.
