Just when you thought baking desserts couldn’t get any easier, enter mug cakes. The reason that the new trend of making mug cakes is so ‘in’ right now is because they're delicious and quick to make. The best part about these tiny cakes is that they require minimal effort since you just need to mix a few ingredients in a cup and pop them in the microwave, plus they also look cute in your Instagram feed so that’s a win-win, right?

So, on those days when your sweet tooth starts acting up but you just don't want the hassle of baking a full-sized cake, try these easy and super fun mug cake recipes to curb your dessert cravings.

 


1. Mug Sponge Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup melted butter (50 g)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (50 g)
  • 1/2 cup flour (50 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

  • Mix all the ingredients well and pour the batter into a microwave-proof mug (or ramekin) greased with butter/oil
  • Cover with plastic wrap poked with breathing holes, and microwave for 50-60 seconds.
  • Once done, take it out carefully and let it cool a bit. Top it up with some fresh fruits or whipped cream and enjoy.

 


2. Banana Mug Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 ripe banana- mashed
  • dash of milk

Instructions:

  • In a mug, mix your dry ingredients together.
  • Stir in your milk, butter, banana, and egg.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt

Instructions:

  • Place the butter in a mug and microwave until melted (approx. 10 to 20 seconds).
  • Add the egg, honey, and vanilla to the mug and beat with a fork until combined.
  • Add the sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt and beat again until smooth.
  • Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes or until set. Let it cool.
  • Garnish with whipped cream (optional) and drizzle with honey before serving.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 10 -15 blueberries
  • 3 tablespoons toned milk

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • In a large mug combine all the cake ingredients, except the blueberries and whisk until smooth.
  • Stir in the blueberries.
  • Cook in microwave for 2 minutes or until set.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons Nutella
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil

Instructions:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a large coffee mug. Whisk well with a fork until smooth.
  • Microwave for 1 ½ to 3 minutes (or until set). Take out carefully and let it cool.
  • Once cool, top with melted chocolate, if desired.
