Celebrate Easter with Eggs and More Treats!

It is that time of the year again – the time for chocolate filled eggs and hot cross buns, marshmallows and marzipan, sausage pies and carrot cakes. Easter is here and what could be a better way to celebrate the renewal of all things good than with brilliant food. Kolkata has always celebrated Easter with fervour. Here are a few places to enjoy a fabulous Easter meal or pick some eggs and bunnies for home.

Flurys – Easter in Kolkata is incomplete without a trip to Flurys, which morphs into something of a wonderland come Easter.  Hot cross buns crammed with currants, Simnel cake with its layers of delicious marzipan, Easter special ham and sausage pies and Neapolitan cheese tarts, cookies, traditional Easter carrot cake and panettone (sweet bread of Italian origin) and of course Easter eggs – they have it all. And the assortment of Easter Eggs is to die for – lemon or strawberry fondant and chocolate coated half eggs, marzipan eggs, nougatine eggs and more (available between March 20 – April 3). You can’t miss it!

La Maison des Délices – La Maison de Délices is celebrating Easter with a three day long special food festival (March 25-77) with a set menu. Start with a warm bowl of potato and leek soup and move on to the Caesar salad. Next up is the Egg Farci served on a bed of arugula followed by a vegetable lasagne. Finally there is chicken-wrapped mutton mousse served in a pool of thyme-infused jus. For dessert there is panna cotta.

ITC Sonar – The  Eden Pavillion at the ITC Sonar is hosting a special brunch buffet on Easter Sunday and the spread is quite impressive with a range of Eater special roasts, eggs Benedict and scotch eggs, tenderloin boboti and classic Anglo Indian favourites such as prawn and egg cocktail. The dessert selection is especially tempting. There is lemon and poppy seed cake with berry topping, sour cherry turnovers and walnut and honey torte. Select premium spirits and sparkling wine will accompany the food. To take home a few Easter eggs, hot cross buns and Easter special fudge hop over to Nutmeg, the hotel’s in-house bakery.

Novotel – Novotel Kolkata is celebrating Easter with a massive brunch at their round-the-clock coffee shop The Square. The menu, a mix of European, Asian and Indian, has everything from beef carpaccio and eggs Benedict to Hyderabadi Biryani and Laksa.  There’s shrimp and avocado salad served in pretty martini glasses and roasted corn-fed chicken on a bed of warm potato and onion salad dressed in porcini cream. The dessert section is especially promising with raspberry crème brûlée, chocolate terrine with green apple jelly and lime parfait on the menu. Add to this a live band and free flowing Sangria and wine – there’s a recipe for a great Easter.

Swissôtel Kolkata Neotia Vista – Or go on an egg hunt at Café Swiss. The Easter brunch spread includes dishes like Chermoula spiced chicken, sweet potato with crème fraiche and caraway seeds, tenderloin forestiere and courgette roulade with ratatouille vegetables and basil. For desserts there are special Easter cup cakes and pies. Plus, there’s live station for eggs, a special seafood counter and another for fondue. There’s an activity zone for children with a separate buffet counter. And they really are having an egg hunt all guests can participate in.
