The popularity of a dimsum is unparallel across the world. So much so, that even an animated short film depicting a living bao, won the Oscar for animated shorts in 2019. Vintage Asia, the speciality pan Asian restaurant of JW Marriott Kolkata is hosting a Dimsum Festival from the 8th till the 17th of March 2019. Here is what you can expect from this festival.
There are several varieties on the offer from steamed dimsums to fried one as well as tossed in sauce. These finger sized bombshells are packed with flavour and even though are quite dainty to look at, do not underestimate how filling they are.
Lotus Leaf Steamed Betki Fish: What can we say about Bekti, the most delicate and delicious fish of Bengal? When this fish is steamed with ginger julienne and some ginger juice in a lotus leaf, the end result creates a beautiful symphony of earthy flavours with the sweetness of the ginger, a hint of spice and the soft flaky fish.
Pan Seared Turnip Cake with Chili and Garlic Flakes: Normally, the non-vegetarian dumplings always are more attractive. However, this one is an exception to the rule. Small turnip cakes are lightly seared on a pan and served with crispy chilli and garlic flakes. Sudden bursts of the spice from the Asian chillies and that scent of garlic coupled with the soft and sweet turnip cakes leave you with a feeling of wanting to have more.
Barbeque Chicken Steamed Rice Rolls: These rice rolls are quite glutenous in structure. Small cubes of smoky barbeque chicken wrapped with these rolls simply melt in the mouth. The best part about this dish is the light soy broth that the rolls sit on, coupled with sweet crunchy baby pokchoy. Absolute deliciousness!
Pakchoy Prawn with Black Pepper Sauce: Perfectly cooked prawns wrapped with pakchoy and served in a sauce made with black pepper and soy. Brilliantly executed, this dish is a seafood lover’s choice.
Pork Gyozas: Dimsums and pork go hand in hand. A dimsum festival without a couple of pork dishes would be such a waste. These pork gyozas are savoury bites of joy. Full flavoured and seasoning pork mince in a crisp coating is so finger licking delicious.

Water Chestnut Spinach Dumpling
Several more dimsums from Golden Puff, Asparagus Dumpling, Water Chestnut Spinach Dumpling, King Mushroom Bun, Lotus Root Celery Rice Rolls and more are available on a la carte basis. People with a sweet tooth can gorge on Custard Bun, Chocolate Bun, Double Boiled Pear with Longan Goji Berry and more.
All this will be available on a la carte basis on weekend lunches and all days dinner till the 17th of March 2019.
