New Café Alert! The Daily near Desapriya Park is Brand New
Coffee, eggs, salads, sandwiches and wholesome food!
23 Jul, 2019 by Madhushree Basu RoyAfter a year-long hiatus, Urvika Kanoi, the young celebrated chef-partner of erstwhile Bodega Cantina Y Bar, has started her very own venture. Almost everyone who loved Bodega, would have asked about her future plans and had been waiting for something exclusive to come up. Urvika Kanoi needs no introduction in Kolkata food scenario. She has been running a very successful gourmet food company called The Food Studio and now she has given the city a brand new café whose focus is world-class food. The Daily Kolkata is a brand new café which is different from other cafes in Kolkata.
The Daily is located at 5, Satyen Dutta Road, the lane next to Maharaja Tea Stall near Desapriya Park. It is a 55 cover café with three seating areas. There is a beautiful conservatory lined with planters and a glass ceiling. The inside is all white with a little bit of grey and a bright green hand-painted wall with pink flamingos. A small retail corner with some artisanal products leads the way to a pink exclusive private dining area.
Co-working space with enough plug points and glass-encased makes this café even more attractive.

The menu is driven by local, seasonal produce and sustainability of local farmers. There is a whole lot of eggs on the menu in different forms, brunching options, sandwiches, salads and some very interesting small and big plates.
Top 5 picks from the menu of The Daily
Mushroom Benedict: There are 5 varieties of Egg benedict with an option of brioche or croissant. Salmon, mushroom, spinach, Malabar masala and ham are the different flavours, all of which come with freshly made hollandaise and perfectly poached eggs. There is a hint of truffle oil and when you run the knife through the runny yolk, the creamy yolk with the hollandaise is a pure savoury indulgence.
Steak and Fries: Kolkata is lucky to still have the option of serving beef but we do not have many standalone restaurants serving a good quality steak. Steak and Fries, done medium well, is prepared to perfection and served. The meat is tender and flavourful and the sauce is totally lush.
The Daily Roast: If wholesome and hearty needed a definition, it would be this dish. A deboned piece of chicken leg and breast is served in soup plate along with fondant potatoes and mushrooms. The sauce is flavoured with lemon, capers and cherry tomatoes. The portion is of a sharing size but it is doubtful if anyone would share it.
Salmon and Beet: Getting a good quality salmon, which is perfectly cooked is not so common. This salmon fillet stands beautifully flaky with a crispy skin on a bed of beetroot puree. There are these cute little pickled cucumber towers surrounding it. But the ultimate knock out is the secret pouring sauce. The base is of beetroot but there are many more elements in the sauce to make you go insane while licking the bowl off every bit of the sauce.
Blueberry Mille-feuille: Literally a thousand sheets, but this dessert is almost too pretty to eat. The buttery puff pastry layers are filled with Kerala vanilla pastry cream and blueberry sauce along with some meringues and fresh blueberries. There is tart, there is sweet, there is crunch and so much happening in this one dessert.
Finally, coffee lovers do not be disheartened. They are well stocked with good quality coffee from the top brands in the country and other beverages like Kombucha as well. There is a small retail corner with artisanal products from across the country, which makes for an interesting time in here.
