Slowly but surely, Chennai has made major strides in the F&B industry. There’s no reason why it wouldn’t -- it has tropical weather, beautiful beaches, incomparable cuisine, and vibrant culture that other cities can only dream of. And as upholders of culture across multiple cities in India, it seemed like a natural progression for SOCIAL to open their 26th outpost in one of India’s most cosmopolitan cities.
Located in the elegant Royapettah neighborhood -- of which Mount Road is a big part -- the outpost is located inside the popular Express Avenue Mall. Walkthrough a ‘Buddhist Garden’ to enter an area that resembles a tropical time machine. Find yourself strutting through a swimming pool-themed mosh pit, as you make your way through the leafy foyer to cozy seating. Neon pink lights with wacky messaging are juxtaposed on curvy walls that seamlessly lead to a terrace with the best views in town.
Borrowing from the themes of the decade-defining TV series Miami Vice, Mount Road Social is a futuristic trip to the past. The outpost is a sea change from how traditional ‘places to chill’ are experienced. It’s a true embodiment of the Chennaiite’s maxim: it’s not just a place, but a vibe.
In the true sense of an urban hangout, Social is a space that blends the best of the office & the café. Combining work & play. So if you find yourself craving to catch a break from a tedious work-from-home routine, this is the definite haven you should head straight to.
Coming to the food and drinks on offer, then fellow gourmands will be ecstatic to know that social’s stellar menu curates a melange of delectable to appeal to your taste buds. From sumptuous starters to delicious mains, and refreshing drinks to decadent desserts, Mount Road Social is beyond equipped to cater to all your gastronomic vices.
Wholesome breakfast, Asian delights, Cheesy pizzas, Gourmet burgers, or sharing platters to pair with their signature drinks, Social has got it all!
Besides all of this, they have also got quite a few preparations in the ‘Local Heroes’ section of their menu that showcase the regional flavor palate beautifully.
Their unique Thalis are to die for, and so is the huge selection of appetizers. We also loved the Loaded Nachos, Jalapeno Cheese Nads, Pepper Roast Momos, Signature Seekh Kebab, Kung Pao Chicken, and Butter Garlic Prawns.
Everything was perfectly cooked, had great flavor, and paired well with the social’s infamous massive-sized LLIIT (Longest Long Island Iced Tea).
If you are in the mood for something substantial, leaning more towards a full-fledged meal, then you must try their piquant Biryanis that come with raita papad, and spiced salad.
Fast-food fanatics are sure to fall in love with their line-up of gourmet Burgers that hit just the right spot. Their Bombay Bachelor sandwich is amazing too and deserves a spot on your must-try list.
