Restaurant Spotlight: Taki Taki, An Exciting Restaurant With Low Lights, High Spirits & Irresistible Food In Lower Parel, Mumbai
A chic dining venue that marries classic Oriental elements with Indian influences
06 Jul, 2022 by Surabhi SharmaAs diverse as Mumbai is, authentic Japanese and Pan Asian cuisine has never reached the same levels of high gastronomy or ever celebrated in the same way before as now. Taki Taki, a restaurant & bar located in Lower Parel serving authentic Japanese and Pan Asian cuisine features delectable food made from the finest, premium-quality ingredients, a well-stocked bar, and stylish, sleek design elements inspired by the Far East.
Taki Taki is accessed by a narrow corridor done up in pink but leads indoors to a marvellous, expansive restaurant and a spacious bar. It doesn’t need mirrors to add the illusion of space; it’s a big space with different seating areas.
The restaurant maintains a refined, fine dining aesthetic with dark walls and plush velvet furnishing. Entire walls are taken up by murals of East Asian elements: koi, and a geisha. An arresting bar in the center sports Indian and some imported whiskies, wines and gin. There’s an open sushi bar. Fast pop streams over speakers, at a comfortable volume. By day the place is bright and airy, by night soft pink-coral lights make it cozy.
The Taki Taki experience would never be complete without the mention of their extensive collection of the finest spirits and exuberant cocktails. The Truffle Negroni - an excellent mix of truffle-washed gin, Martini Rosso, Campari and applewood smoke will not leave you disappointed.
While our other recommendation- 'The Dawn of Spices' paints a pretty picture as it comes in a glass shaped like a bird. This citrusy vodka drink features the mildest touch of spiciness from bird's eye chili and requires the accompanying shot of Bailey’s to mellow it down.
The food menu features a wide range of Japanese and Pan-Asian dishes with something for everyone’s palate. The live sushi bar offers guests classical sushi options like the Spicy Tobanjan Avocado Maki for vegetarians and Dragon Roll – a combination of crunchy fried prawn, seaweed, scallions, tobiko fish eggs, and a teriyaki sauce to bring it all together for non-vegetarians.
The selection of dim sum & baos offers a variety of options but we would recommend you to try out Edamame & Truffle (veg), Prawn Shiitake Chives & Tobiko and Chicken & Truffle Suimai Shaved Hajikame (non-veg).
If it is sumptuous starters that you crave then we highly recommend you try their Butter Spiced Shimeji Mushrooms – crispy fried shimeji with togarashi & special spice blend.
Another great appetizer that we absolutely loved from their stellar line-up was the Asian Spiced Quail with tender and crunchy pieces of quail on a bed of fried onions and celery, do yourself a favor by ordering this delish preparation for your table, and you can thank us later!
It’s easy to fill up on the fabulous array of appetizers, dim sums, and sushi on offer, but it would be wise to leave some room for their curation of unmissable mains when dining at Taki Taki. The chef has successfully combined the crown jewels of both cuisines to create something genuinely unique like the Grilled Chilian Sea Bass accompanied with Saffron Rice and Mushroom Sauce and the Lamb Chops made with a homemade spice blend.
Do not miss out on the desserts. They showcase a blend of Asian and international culinary influences and we recommend you to try out their signature Fire & Ice – an Apricot and Ginger Chocolate Cake with Rum Raisin ice cream. Be prepared for a perfect Instagram worthy presentation.
