How about some hot chocolate with bacon?

How about some hot chocolate with bacon?

It is a very hot chocolate kind of day! Cold winter nights and a cup of Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows is the best kind of comfort. Kolkata rarely experiences cold winters and this year, it has been surprisingly chilly. And, The Daily café has come out with a whole lot of Hot Chocolate options to try in the winters. Well, not just Hot Chocolate, but they do have a winter menu, which is nothing short of celebratory.

Soups, Mulled Tea, Kahwa, Pulled Pork Buns, Chipotle Prawns, Strawberries and Cream in waffles, Christmas Roast and other such food find their way into this winter menu. And, here is our top 5 pick from the winter menu of The Daily.

Different kind of Hot Chocolate

It is called oink oink and it is a must-try, in case you are a pork lover. At INR 325, it is a large cup filled with rich Hot Chocolate with a bit of Canadian Maple Syrup and Bacon. A strip of that crispy sweet and salty bacon comes as a garnish and the salt from the bacon balances all the sweetness. It is pretty to look at and feeds your inner child. This one is priced at INR 265.

The Pork Dog (refer cover image)

This one is served in a homemade Hot Dog Bun. It is packed with Pulled Pork in a Southern BBQ Sauce. Not too spicy, not too sweet, this one has all the goodness of perfectly cooked and shredded pork in a savoury and smoky BBQ Sauce. It is priced at INR 295.

Green Goddess Gnocchi

Not everywhere you get soft and pillowy gnocchi. In fact, in most places, it is a disaster with hard and chewy gnocchi. This one literally melts in the mouth. It is made in house, perhaps that’s why it makes a difference. The sauce is a classic burnt butter along with sweet peas, asparagus and fresh broccoli. There is a certain softness to the dish (almost elvish in Lord of the Rings lingo). The burnt butter clings on to the gnocchi and every mouthful is just plain good. This dish is priced at INR 265.

Tenderloin and Rice

Well, we surely feel blessed to be in a state, where we can enjoy tenderloin. The Daily does an amazing steak and fries but this one is different. The winter menu has a hearty bowl of rice topped with tenderloin strips, shitake mushrooms and scallions in bechamel and some kind of mildly sweet and tangy secret sauce. I reckon the tanginess is from wine and this bowl is a priceless feast. This is priced at INR 425.

Cheesecake of your Dreams

While there are several dessert options and kids might go for the waffle selections, this dessert celebrates strawberries and cheese like none other. A dome of cheesecake sits on a buttery crumble and fresh strawberries. The cheesecake has a strawberry coulis liquid centre, which is a delight to have. The different layers and textures along with a joyful jumble of flavours make this one a winner. This is priced at INR 345.

The winter special menu is up until 31st of January and if you are one of those persons who like to enjoy good food in a warm and lively ambience, then this is not to be missed.
