Nala Bhimas derives its name from the mythological Chefs Nala and Bheem. It was amongst the first wave of Andhra and Telangana speciality restaurants that opened in Hyderabad. These restaurants were instrumental in showcasing dishes hitherto unseen outside of home kitchens and also bringing popular dishes such as 'Ajanta Kodi Pulao' from the hinterlands. Four years later, Nala Bhimas restaurant feels a shell of its earlier self. I visited Nala Bhimas for dinner and was disappointed to discover that a sizeable chunk of dishes was unavailable, including almost all of the Dosa combos. And those that were available varied between average to lacklustre. The dishes are fiery and will satisfy the hotheads, but there is little flavour to be found beyond that of red chilly.
