The Promenade Lounge (the restyled By the Way) on one end of Taj Bengal’s lobby (it offers fantastic views of the hotel’s famous vertical gardens), doubles as a lounge and an art gallery for works by young, aspiring artists. The menu (largely quick bites) is strewn with pakka Kolkata favourites and Anglo Indian classics such as Chowringhee kathi roll (I would rather stick to the roadside variety), Southern Railway cutlet and Anglo baked casserole. The spicy steak and caramelised onion sandwich is one of their bestsellers. Besides, they have a fantastic selection of specialty tea and coffee.
