Mumbai’s first, full-fledged East Indian cuisine restaurant, is a small, brightly lit, cosy place, located at the lobby level of this hotel. The décor is simple, but the ambience, warm. The native Christians of Mumbai, the East Indians, are known for their traditional food. The menu here captures the essence of their cuisine, with distinct Maharashtrian overtones, albeit with limited offerings. Start with the 'Chicken Pan Rolls' or the popular 'Potato Chops', generously filled with mince, served with 'Lagan Nu Achar', which is a bit incongruous. For mains, one can opt for dishes from the seafood section, such as the 'Seafood Khichdi' or 'Fish Curry'. The 'Chicken Moile', made with the quintessential bottle masala and vinegar, is overly tart and tangy. One can ask for 'Pork Sorpotel' even though it is not on the menu. There is a vegetarian section too and one can try the 'Beans Foogath' or the 'Tribal Curry', with fugeas, the popular deep-fried and fermented dough balls. The desserts here are unimaginative and nothing to write home about. The staff is polite, articulate and helpful.
