A wacky illustration of a chef creating ‘culinary magic’ with a tablespoon-wand (!) that appears to be emitting different ‘spice’ elements such as red chillies and bell peppers (a doff to the name of the establishment) is what catches your eye first as you traipse into IBIS’s 24-hour restaurant. The happy yellow walls with bursts of ochre, upbeat contemporary music and bright spheres of light hanging over every table add extra cheer to the pleasant ambience. Set your meal in motion with a big bowl of Moroccan carrot salad (meat eaters will also love the insalata di pollo), accompanied by soothing Thai ginger soup. For mains, the mellow panang curry with rice, meen moilee – if you are in the mood for Kerala comfort food – or fried stuffed chicken breast with mushroom sauce are a good bet.
