The isolated, exclusive Xanadu is ensconced in a verdant spa-resort, giving a psychedelic twist to serenity. Inviting cocktails include a Venice sangria (ginger and mint in white wine), ‘red fog’ (vodka with pomegranate and mint), lychee daiquiri, apple and cinnamon martini, kiwi ‘marguerita’, ‘covo’ (vodka and fresh coconut water) and a hot toddy (brandy with spices like clove, cinnamon, star anise in honey-lime hot water). The menu comprises a substantive list of starters – chilli lime peanuts and honeyed cashews, to begin with, proceeding to broccoli fritters with sour cream and salsa, or cornflake-crusted prawns with sweet-chilli sauce, or cheese-stuffed mushrooms with wasabi mayo. There are also paneer teriyaki, prawn Thai spring rolls, a chilli garlic olive bowl and melting Shikampuri tikkis with fried meat and cheese. Protip: The ‘Hades’ cocktail, combining dark rum, whisky, brandy, gin, tequila, and beer is quite the knockout.
