Barbeque World offers vegetarians a taste of North Indian flavours. They offer tandoor style cooked paneer, potatoes, corn and other vegetarian kebab options. The place is on the first floor of Sigma Legacy building. The interiors are okay but it does not have a distinctive look and the tables are too close to each other so it gives a cramped feeling. The staff and service at the restaurant was average. The place serves vegetarian kebabs on skewers over hot coal fire at the table so guests can keep eating food hot from the fire. Commonly, the vegetarian barbeque consists of vegetables like Cauliflower and potatoes marinated in curd and spices and heated over a coal fire. The other starters are paneer based and also there are some fruits like Pineapple Zafrani. The whole barbeque trail offers mocktails, (they need to improve the quality), soup and starters followed by main course and dessert. Overall the experience here is average. Most of the foods, including soups and the main course, cater to the Gujarati palate with the minestrone soup being too sweet. Many main course dishes were also sweet in taste.
The technique of cooking food on fire is an old one in India. No matter where you are, there will be some regional recipes involving fire as a cooking medium as part of their tradition. The technique is said to intensify the flavours even more and add that smoky edge to the food. The chefs are concentrating on reviving this age-old technique by coming out with compact live pits to make your meal even more interesting. Several restaurants have adapted ‘barbeque’ in their names as to signify their preference for live grills as one of the key features. Ahmedabad joins in the race by introducing ‘Barbeque World’ to it’s foodies where they can indulge in the pleasure of cooking on live pits. This popular family-style restaurant is located on the 1st Floor, Sigma Legacy Building, IIM Road, Vastrapur.
Keep your fingers from charring while you roast your food at the live pit attached to your table at Barbeque World. Twist and turn the skewers loaded with mouth-watering appetizers until you get the right char and then tuck into various tandoori nibbles freshly unburdened off the grill. North Cuisine is exclusively targeted here with smattering of Chinese and food is purely vegetarian to suit the herbivorous lifestyle of the Gujaratis. Opt for their generous buffets if you get a chance. Not a drop of alcohol is served at Barbeque World. Stick with a mocktail. Start tucking into, crispy corn salt & pepper, paneer angara, chinese cigar, tandoori gobhi, hariyali paneer tikka, bhutte ke kebab and paneer nasheman tikka. Follow it up with a round of wholesome curries or oriental gravies.
Variety is wonderful. You will have plenty to choose from. Polish off the curries with a basket of flatbread or a platter of rice. Light instrumental music flows in the background intensifying the mood. Have an ice cream sundae to wrap up the meal. Barbeque World is a pocket-friendly place. This is a value for money restaurant where families and large groups can enjoy a lavish meal for reasonable prices. There is nothing striking about the décor of the restaurant. Smooth tiled walls in beige tone is set off the long sleek sofas in the same color. A bright orange text mounts on the main wall, adding to the style quotient. Interiors are humble, neat and simply furnished. Pick this place if you want to dine freely within budget.
