Shree Mahendra Thal is one of the newer thali restaurants opened up in the city. Located on the first floor of a complex in Thaltej, it is right on Sarkhej Gandhinagar Highway. It does have a lift so one does not have to climb stairs. The place is done up in lots of wood panelling on the walls. The chairs and tables are also wooden and the chairs are upholstered in an off-white material with pastel coloured flowers on it. There are chandeliers in contemporary style on the ceiling and the whole place has a nice rice look. The waiters are dressed up in brown coloured uniforms with a dark brown headgear which is good as it gives them a neat look. The stewards are also dressed up in formal clothes with white shirts and ties. The restaurant is using bell metal utensils which are said to be good for health. There is the only kind of thali served here, i.e. the 'Unlimited Thali' and they only serve Gujarati food, here 'The Gujarati Thali', as, Shree Mahendra Thal serves '3 Savoury Items', '2 Sweets', '4 Vegetables' including one potato vegetable, 'Papad', 'Dal' or 'Khadi', 'Chaas', and 'Rice'. On the table, you will find 'Red and Green Chutney', 'Pickle' and 'Salad' in bowls so you can help yourself with whatever you want.
We had a party to celebrate 50th anniversary of my parents and was confused about the place. Finally we narrowed it down on Shree Mahendra Thaal. Let me tell you that it was my 1st experience and i was worried about the program but right from the beginning the approach shown by Mahendrabhai was very good. when i asked he said your guests are my guests and you need to worry about them. He offered us to have tasting round before the actual function and that clicked and solved all my doubts. If you are looking for gujarati thali restaurant then i would surely recommend, not to miss this outlet. The platter was full with 2 sweets one Angur or Indrani Basundi and he prepared Laddu (Ladva made from Wheat) on our request. Farsan served were shahi dhokla, spring roll and paneer chilla along with 4 vegetables. he also served us jain dishes as per our request. The taste was wonderful and on top of that hospitality and courtesy shown by owner, manager and entire staff. All in all worth trying it once then you will not be able to miss it again
