This family-friendly restaurant can really surprise you with their menu – Chinese, North Indian and Coastal Mangalorean cuisine is what is on offer and they seem to have some really good chefs for each. Multiple visits to the restaurant and home deliveries later it is still a go-to place for me. Among the Chinese fare, 'Butter Garlic Noodles' makes an excellent base for just about any dish that you want the order to-go with it. In fact, we even have a go at it with nothing at all – the butter and the garlic alone are good enough. But, opting for some 'Roasted Lamb Gansu Style' to go with it is a good idea. For starters, you could opt for the 'Diced Chicken Chilli (finally a place that spells chilli right on its menu) And Pepper'. Among the Mangalorean starters – all the standard 'Fish Fries' – naked, masala, ghee roast, rava fried are all available with seasonal fish and prawns. The 'Bondas' or 'Squid Koliwada' is a brilliant choice. For the main course, the ''Chicken Ghee Roast' is as fiery as it looks – pairing this with neer dosas is a good idea. The Kerala based dishes – from the 'Meen Roast' to the 'Nadan Kurumulaku Kozhi' are all good choices. Vegetarians do not have to worry because there is a lot to choose from across all cuisines.
Fujian looks pretty amazing and it’s best to be seated on the roof top it’s beautiful and we went for the lunch buffet it’s kind of limited buffet on defined menu and the food tasted amazing and service was excellent!
Friendly staff .with ample lighting for dinner . Can have huge option for veg and non veg . With TV in place and light music you can spend time with your friends for a long hour of chat .
The hotel is located in the prime place. Very comprehensive menu! However, service is slow, food (platter ordered) was under-cooked and the spices were bland. It is also on the higher end of the price range for a similar cuisine!
The Coastal Crew is a one stop destination for all coastal dishes dedicated to Udupi and Mangalore area. The place comes from the same family as Fujian on 24th and the combined restaurants now serves Pan-Asian as well as Coastal dishes. Located just on the top floor of the same premises as Fujian on 24th , you don’t have to go any further to find your favorite dishes. The ambiance is of typical colonial café. The place is open from one side making it ideal for romantic dinners. The Coastal Crew brings home some of the very best from the Mangalore region. Therefore, we tried the Masala Moru and the Soul Kadi. The Masala Moru is a Spiced Butter Milk with chilies and coriander leaves. The Soul Kadi can be tried both hot as well as cold but I choose the cold one. It was also spicy with kokum extract and then finished with garlic. Both the drinks were fantastic and set the right tone for the food that was about to be served. First we had the Mushroom Ghee Roast. If you’re not familiar with the Ghee Roast family like me than this will be a perfect start. The Mushroom are Ghee Roasted with a mild spicy tomato gravy. The roast gave the mushroom a smoky flavor ideal to go with any sort of chilled drinks. I loved my Ghee Roasted Mushrooms. Next, we had the Hara Bhara Kebab. Spices and different veggies are mashed together to make this beautiful dish. The Paneer Skewers came next and as you can guess this was from the Fujian menu. The overall taste of the dish was good and what I really liked what that the sauce on top of the Paneer was adequate. We were so full by then that we went straight to try their Veg Biryani. This Biryani is inspired from the coastal regions of Mangalore and is very different from a typical Hyderabadi Biryani. The biryani had a handful of veggies along with cashews and paneer. This is nothing less than fantastic. At The Coastal Crew you will find some really unique desserts. We tried the Fried Ice-cream and the Coconut Pudding. The Fried Ice-cream was literally fried, don’t believe me? Well a scoop of ice-cream is quoted in a coconut based batter and then deep-fried in hot oil. This was good in taste except that I didn’t like the cashews and raisins in this ice-cream. But you can go ahead and choose your ice-cream. The Coconut Pudding is a subtle coconutty dessert. No complains as I was totally satisfied with it. Overall, the experience at The Coastal Crew is nothing less than great. The ambiance really sets the tone high and the food is the real deal here.
The menu here was really exciting for me. It has a wide range of coastal delicacies and I couldn't wait to try it. However, the food was pretty mediocre. The appams took a really long time to come to our table so our curries were cold by the time they came. And the appams didn't even come to our table hot. We sent them back, and they still didn't come back hot. The starters and curries were delicious, will definitely give this place another chance just for the great range in their menu.
