There was a time when there was only one name when it came to good Kerala food served in a nice setting and with beer available as well. Coconut Grove has been catering to the Kerala food desires of the city for a long time now and precious little has changed in terms of quality, which has always been good. Make a start with the 'Markandam Soup', made of lamb, simmered for a long while, with spices and soft pieces of meat. A milder beginning would be the regular 'Rasam' – I always try to end with this one. Among the starters, the 'Kozhi Porichathu' as well as the 'Kozhi Melagu' which has a solid hit of pepper. The fish preparations here are just like what it is on the backwaters of Kerala – try the 'Meen Vevichathu' which is spicy as well as tangy from the touch of kodampuli. The 'Nadan Chemeen Curry with Rice' is a great combination. Vegetarians have a great selection here too, from the 'Avial' to the 'Moru Kozhambu' and the 'Kadala Kari'. The rice and bread options are plenty – from 'Appams' to 'Parotas' to the 'Kuthari Rice' that is brown boiled rice and also the 'Thengai Sadam' – coconut rice. 'Ada Pradhaman' and 'Kaidachakka Halwa' are great ways to end the meal here.
