When at a Japanese restaurant, you first start with all the things that you are familiar with. For me that is sushi and I always zero in on the platter. More bang for buck and the ability to order the next round of what I like in a larger quantity. So the platter here has the red snapper, tuna, prawn, egg and salmon. One of the few places that does not throw in a cucumber or avocado roll into a seafood platter. Moving to something less tried – the 'Okuro no wasabi ae' – diced okra in a wasabi flavoured dashi broth. Since this retains a lot of the stickiness of the vegetable, it can take some getting used to. Opt for the set meals here which is a trayful of various little dishes and your choice of meat or seafood. You get sticky rice, miso soup, pickled vegetables, some seaweed and dried fish. Along with that a mayo salad, your meat or fish and some dark soy sauce. Try the 'Crumb Fried Pork' option. It is a good one. There are some interesting options for vegetarians, the 'Salad Maki' being thickly rolled sushi with julienned vegetables. The bowl meals are good choices too. If you like Sashimi, then the 'Tekka Don, with 'Sushi Rice, Sliced Raw Tuna, along with Miso Soup, Soy and Pickled Veggies' is great. Another version is the 'Oyako Don' – rice with stewed chicken. And for desserts, you can choose to have the 'Egg Pudding' (which is not eggy if that is what you are worried about) and the 'Wasabi Icecream' are nice.
