It is hard to see this steakhouse flourishing in any other city in the current climate. But this is a wonderful, Bengaluru institution, with terrific steaks sourced from Indian animals – no imports! Indian steak is different from say, American because there is much less fat and no real marbling. So what you get is flavourful lean meat, with slightly more bite. The extensive menu includes delicious lamb dishes and there are plenty of vegetarian items too though steak is the point of the restaurant. It helps that the owners are also in the meat business, so you get the best cuts and because the restaurant is a labour of life, there is an obsessive attention given to detail. This is serious food for serious foodies.
I have visited Portland Steakhouse several times because my sister and her husband love the food and its quiet and food is great. As the name suggests it's famous for steaks. And we have tried many steaks over the years. You can choose your pick and you can better it would be fresh and good to eat. The prices have increased over the years but the quality of food is still very good. The chicken steak and the sauce are simple Yum.
Believe it or not, cooking a humble looking piece of meat on fire could be one of the most daunting tasks you have to do in the kitchen, and naturally not all places do well in that respect. I am glad I did make it to just the right place while visiting Bangalore a few days back. Portland Steakhouse & Cafe is one elegant restaurant located at the 1st Cross of Ashok Nagar on MG Road area of Bangalore, giving that chic yet calming aura. The interiors, be it the simple contemporary furniture to the modest wall hangings, all were well conducive of the overall theme. Coming to the food, I went in for a dinner where I began with a sampling of their soups namely the Broccoli Almond and the Mushroom Cappucino. While both the soups were deliciously thick and creamy in consistency, it was the Mushroom Cappucino which left a great impact on the taste buds with its all round flavour profile. For the appetizers the place had Chili Cheese Garlic Bread and Fiery Chicken in store where their Fiery Chicken came with a choice of level of heat where I chose the spiciest one. The chicken appertizer had bite sized morsels of soft and succulent chicken thigh tossed in with onions and bell peppers in a spicy chili sauce though the heat level wasn't that much for me personally. But all in all, a really enjoyable dish. The Garlic Bread however was a disappointment as the bread had no real garlic flavour to it and was just topped with cheese making it more of a cheese bread than a garlic bread. And finally came the time to dig into what they are known for, the juicy delicious steaks. I went in for a Chateuxbriand in Pepper Garlic sauce cooked medium which indeed was followed by the books. The steak came to me just the way I wanted it to be with a side of fresh grilled veggies and a dollop of smooth and soft mashed potatoes. The quantity and the quality of meat was what surprised me as the hunk of meat was enough to feed two easily which made it even more worth the price. As my fellow diners were craving for something sweet, we went ahead to order a couple of desserts including their New York Cheesecake, Creme Brule and a Chocolate Mousse and let me tell you that we weren't disappointed at all. All the desserts had just the right amount of sweetness which wasn't overwhelming as in many other places. New York Cheesecake was my personal favourite having the perfect smooth consistency topped with a delectable berry compote. The service too did justice to the dining experience and delivered at all places. The service staff was warm and friendly, suggesting us with dishes whenever we needed help. Overall, the place was a delight to dine in and presented me with one of the best steak dinners I had in quite a while. Definitely worth a visit!
Best Place if you are looking for steaks in Bangalore. We ordered sirloin steak with medium rear preparation, squid fry and virgin mojito. Steak was awesome. And for two persons, the bill was only 2k. One of the very good restaurants, I have visited. The biggest steak, about 900 gms, you can it in town...!!!
The food was awesome specially the steak. Nice place but staff was too friendly and kept staring at me. I was on a date with my boyfriend and was dressed accordingly but it seems that girls should not wear gowns since staffs are always starting. On top of this they kept coming to the table every now n then.
This is the place for a good steak!! Everything that we ordered was served to,perfection and was delicious. We ordered the rib eye steak, fillet mignon and steak and eggs....yummy!! Good portions and very filling.
