When you come to a brewpub, you, of course, start with the beers. At XOOX (pronounced Zooks) a sampler is chargeable here, as with most breweries in Bangalore (I honestly wish they would follow the paths of Mumbai and Pune in this department). The beers that really worked for me are the 'Japanese Dry Blonde Ale' for its lightness of flavours as well as the Smoked Amber, with its mild smokiness, the 'Tarty Apple Cider' and the really good 'Hefeweizen'. There are, of course, the seasonal beers such as the 'Red Velvet' that is currently on taps and the 'Nitro Milk Stout', should it come back. Coming to the food, XOOX has now moved to do buffets – working lunch buffets through the week and Sunday brunches are a recent addition. I prefer going with the a la carte menu for the better options I find there. On our recent visit, we began our meal with the 'Beef Bruschetta' – tender beef chunks on homemade bread which was a great pairing with the sampler that we were getting through. We also asked for the 'Wasabi Calamari' – a good option, with enough of wasabi to give you the punch, without knocking you out. The 'Dehydrated Dosa' is a good pick – I like how the dosa is made into the likes of the Mangalorean Rotti and served up with tomato and coconut chutneys. Should you want something quick and reliable to go with the beers (which 500ml pours) then the 'Sabakki Vada' is a good bet as well. The bakery section is quite good here and you could give the 'Cheesy Vegetable Quesadilla' a go as also the 'Truffled Wild Mushroom Pide'. The 'Beef and Spinach Arabic Pizza' with 'Tomato Sriracha' is another good choice. Among the desserts, the 'Buttermilk Pannacotta with Raspberry and Rose' decoction as well as the 'Red Velvet Parfait' are nice ways to close the meal.
Tipplers with a serious hankering for a good, crisp brew will find any of the Bengalurus numerous microbreweries quite acceptable, however, if you consider yourself somewhat of a connoisseur then you shouldnt miss onto the drinking experience offered by XOOX Brewmill. Tagged as one of the coolest microbreweries in the city, the pours they offer are quite delicious and all house brewed. If not for beer then go for the food alone, which is quite exceptional considering a drinking place. The brewery is quite popular with the tipplers who are well aware of all the hip drinking spots in Bengaluru. XOOX (pronounced as Zooks) is tried and tested after all. It finds a trendy corner in Koramangala Industrial Layout, Near HDFC Bank, Koramangala 5th Block in Bengaluru.
Corporate teams and posse of friends chugging down beer is a common sight at XOOX Brewmill. Rule of the thumb while drinking here is to order whatever is on tap. If you are new to the scene at XOOX then you better order their beer sampler to decide onto your chosen brew of the evening. Our vote lies with Japanese dry blonde ale or Hefeweizen. With the beers munch on a variety of nibbles, handpicked from the bars global multi-cuisine menu. Let your taste buds sing with, steam bun rajma masala taco, beef brochette, Thai fish cakes, Mexican kachori, cheesy bunny chow and galouti sheermal pao. Follow it up with an assortment of mains such as, coorgi pandi pizza, fettuccine al pesto, mutton kothu parotta, vegetable biryani and beef rendang.
This culinary joyride doesnt end here. It continues with an array of innovative desserts. Malpua mille feuille, red velvet parfait, buttermilk pannacotta, Japanese lemon drop, besan laddoo tart, tres leches cake and motichoor cheesecake. The modern twist given to classic dishes adds interest to the menu. Enjoy live entertainment while having your meal. Bill seems hefty but justified. This high-ceilinged, stylish microbrewery splits onto two levels attached with a breezy rooftop section that fills up quickly during weekends. Vast loft-style space is decorated with contemporary furnishings and ambient lighting, exuding an attractive, trendy appeal. Its a great place to party and sample the electrifying nightlife of Bengaluru.
