In the hospitality circles of the city, it is well understood that Chinese cuisine is always a winner with the Chandigarhian palate. While there are many versions being offered around town – many of which are a toss-up of Chinese and Punjabi flavours – authentic dishes thankfully are not frowned upon. That is one reason the kitchens of Black Lotus, the Chinese fine-dining restaurant in Taj Chandigarh is always steered by a Chinese expat chef. The latest to arrive is the young and affable Chef Wen Wang who last served in the Taj kitchens at Thiruvananthapuram. Hailing from Beijing the chef has infused new flavours in the refurbished menu. Housed on the first floor of the hotel, Black Lotus has a predominantly black, gold and red theme. There is ample space for seating and a good view of the greenery outside. It works well for both lunch and dinner. Do try for the weekends, when there's a live act on. While there’s a good selection of Chinese dishes, a lot is from the Schezwan belt of China. It would be a good idea to start your meal with Chef Wang’s signature salad. It is fresh and light. The chef also recommends his recipe of chicken and we relished it. The flavours are light and there is a substantial use of steaming and wok-tossed methods at use. Vegetarians will relish the ‘Lotus stem in black bean sauce’ as well as a selection of dim sums and Kothe. The portions of the dishes are good and it would be wise to try new dishes each time your visit.
Black lotus is a excellent to go with friends and have a quality time. Menu have a wide range of variety specially for non vegetarians. The best assets of the restaurant is the staff. A must visit place in tri city for food lovers.
A nice restaurant for special occasions but nothing fancy about the food or the selection of dishes.. even the seating isn't great
We Indians love Chinese food , but what we have had basically is Indianised version of Noodles , Manchurian , hot and sour and spring rolls. But Black Lotus changes the Chinese scene totally. Here you can have original Chinese or to be specific Sichuan Cuisine ( comes from Sichuan region of China ) and the food will leave you mesmerized completely. Black Lotus has an amazing ambience , soothing to the eyes and hospitality of Taj is known to all. We started with Wok Tossed water chestnut with burnt garlic and it was amazing . Could never think that water chestnut can be eaten in such a way. Xiang La Mountain Potato are thin potato chips fried and piled together. They are light , crispy and crunchy. Mushroom and bamboo shoot salad is again a delectable mixture of ingredients which is light and tasty. Never ever I had better dimsums than this place. Mushroom and asparagus dumplings as well as spinach ,garlic , cheddar cheese dumpling just melted in the mouth. The thin translucent sheet upon dimsums is made in house only . The best dish undoubtedly there is grilled sesame tofu . Tofu cuts like a fish and melts in the mouth . Just right amount of flavors of sesame seeds . Also loved there tofu in mushroom sauce , stir fried zucchini with chilly and soya . One can't find better caramelized onion fried rice anywhere else. There quantity is decent and all the dishes have that perfect balance of flavors. Nothing appears overdone or underdone at all. If you really want genuine authentic Chinese food and that too vegetarian this is the place to go. They have a huge brunch on Sundays and it is so totally worth it . #SparklingBlackLotusSundays Also ,my non vegetarian friends say that there non veg is better but we can fight upon it all day . Highly highly recommended. Happy Eating. Cheers

Recently had the opportunity to try the Brunch at a Black Lotus. First off, I absolutely loved their presentation of food and the courteous service. The ambiance is amazing with a live singer on piano that brings back the feel of fine dining. In the starters, everything was simply perfect. Especially their water chestnuts. They were cooked to perfection. I also tried a very different drink- fire and ice which is basically a drink made using green chillies. So if you're bored of the usual sugary drinks, this is the hit you're looking for. The main course was simply delightful. Their eggplants and mushrooms were amazing. So was the tofu which melts like butter in your mouth. However, a letdown is the desserts section. There's nothing extraordinary in the same and can probably do better with a little more innovation. Must try!
