The first thing you realise about The Back Room, housed in the rear of The Toy Hotel, is its discreet location. Styled like a Gentleman’s Club complete with wooden interiors and Chesterfield sofas and a heavy duty bar, The Back Room, more popularly known as TBR, encourages conversations on most days. Weekends are reserved for live gigs and musical performances and it can get packed and noisy. The location might be off centre – Sector 34 which is away from the hustle and bustle of fine dining and lounges in Sector 26 but it works in the restaurant’s favour. The bar is well stocked and offers a good mix of cocktails too. Even though it is a small space, there is plenty of leg room. We also like the fact that The Back Room works well during the day with the French windows bringing in the sun. The food menu hopscotches across cuisines and offers dishes that are perfect with your spirited sips. There is an entire section dedicated to bar munchies and small eats. We would highly recommend the ‘Spanakopitas served with Lemon Chilli Aioli’ and 'Sticky Shitake Mushrooms'. The ‘Peri Peri Grilled Butter Fish’ is also an in-house speciality as are the ‘Tandoori momos’. The menu also offers sliders and meal in a bowl options. If you are looking for meals with north Indian flavours but with a twist, do try the ‘Skewers with Churi Roti’. A TBR classic, you can opt for either 'Paneer or Chicken Makhni' served on skewers and served with a deconstructed roti. The portions are reasonable though service can be slack when the restaurant is running to a full house. We also tried the ‘Blueberry Cheesecake’ which was average in taste.
