Dining is just not limited to four walls and a simple plate with bowls, it has transformed itself from being a monotonous affair to something with unexpected flair. Chennai is being invaded by these fun little bistros and pubs that have decided to put a whole new meaning to the term ‘dining’. A recent crop of diners have welcomed a new funky food joint to their culinary fold by tagging it the new ‘It’ place. They have apparently fallen in love with its casual perky décor and its inventive fun menu. ‘Double Roti’ (pun intended!) is the next big haunt for Chennai’s young gourmets. Tucked somewhere in the by lanes of Neelangarai, the bistro is a like a breath of fresh air amidst the one dimensional dining spots. The patrons are flocking to the bistro to enjoy its gorgeous refreshing fare.Double Roti is the brainchild of two ex-ITC hoteliers who have vowed to bring heart-warming comfort food to the tables of Chennai’s gourmets. But here the monotony ends. This is comfort food with a twist! Gone are the days of dal-roti or in Chennai’s case dosai-chutney, food at Double Roti is a creative uptake on good old American food. Expect loads of juicy burgers, loaded fries, stacked sandwiches, gourmet maggi and crusty pizzas. You start tucking into the menu with few appetizers, loaded cheese chili toasts, corn fusion, chicken wings, beep chili fries, BBQued chicken sausages, grilled chicken & jalapeno quesadilla, spiced & crumbed shrimps served with sweet chilli sauce and Punjabi maggi. Take things to the next level with cheesy hot dog, pita pataka, the happy beet burger, egg & mayo sandwich, ginger chili hoisin pork and goodfellas pizza. Dessert course is a medley of chocolate mud, banana banoffee, seasonal fruit tart and under baked cake. Double Roti is totally affordable and a fun place. Inside the bistro is casual, warm and welcoming. Wooden highlights dominates the décor which is cleverly decorated by chalkboard cut-outs and fun art work. Lighting is kept bright. Furnishings is lightweight and colourful. Presentation is their strong suit. To add the funky flavour they have presented the food in an innovative manner. Food comes to you in cake tin pans, cooking flatware, vintage jars and planters. The cheerful outdoor area is busy all the time especially on weekends when the bistro is invaded by party-hoppers and chirpy families.
