  • Most importantly, the menu and the food is still very much Peshawri. The dal Fortune, kadak seekh and Sikandari raan are exactly how you would expect them to be, only a little cheaper than ITC Chola. Vegetarians must try the signature Bharwan Paneer, now not on the menu
  • The new team, led by Suresh Mudliyar (F&B Manager) strives for Earthen Oven to carve out its own identity in a fairly competitive segment. Prices are expected to go down, and the menu has expanded
  • At the moment, they have a great unlimited prix-fixe deal on the kababs, which works out to a fraction of their á-la-carte prices. Might be the best kababs you can get at that price in Chennai!

The journey and fortunes (no pun intended) of the old Chola Sheraton are best captured at the Earthen Oven. It began as the very first outpost of Peshawri in 1978, which itself is a moniker for a branch of the legendary Bukhara at ITC Maurya. At one point of time, patrons waited around the circular lobby in a queue to get inside the cosy, rustic dining rooms. Now, solitary whispers echo through the restaurant, which seems to be caught in a time warp. Which, may not be a bad thing for you.

Carrying this age old iconic name from ITC Maurya, Earthen Oven has a responsibility to perform by reaching the same high quality standards as its namesake. Earthen Oven is much more budget-friendly and less formal than the older restaurant. First thing you notice as you step in is the sprawling space that meets your eye. The vast space is used to break the room into wide nooks that act as private dining room. Wooden carved screens does the job of dividing the room neatly to form secluded spaces for diner to sit and relax in. Ambience is a bit formal yet laid back. There is nothing striking or loud about the furnishings. Everything is subtle, timeless and elegant. It’s a good place to pick for quiet family dinners or an important business meeting when you want to impress the client with a touch of class.
