Godka’s raison d'être has got nothing to do with divine providence or vodka. It is best known for being former actress Simran Bagga’s (who is quite popular in the South) foray into the restaurant business. Unsurprisingly, Godka has the right glam quotient – the roomy eatery is beautifully done, striking a balance between kitsch and bling. If you want a chic space to chat away an afternoon, then Godka is perfect. The menu however, seems to have been given second priority. The fare hops across cuisines: from rogan josh and nethili fry, to lamb ribs and tom yum soup. Apparently, a compilation of Simran’s favorites. Large portions cannot redeem sloppy kitchen skills, and your best bet is to stick with local specialties such as seer fish fry or biryani.
Food wasn't served on time. They took plenty of time to provide ordered food even when there were hardly any other customers. Taste was also not upto the mark.
This place was recommended by a friend of mine as ambience was great for a business discussion. When we placed teh order the staff was not able to understand what we were trying to convey. Hence we had to call teh chef, and surprisingly the chef was not available that afternoon. Anyway, we just ordered for a salad, soup and soem tandoori chicken as we did not want to take a chance. When teh food came, we were zapped as it was really tasty and amazing. Overall it was a great experience. Nice place for a cosy lunch or dinner. I think the chef should be away always - because teh man in charge of teh kitchen that day did a wonderful job....
I wish the place had lived up to the expectations created by the rave reviews given by my friends. The place is very centrally located in the ECR and easily identifiable & accessible from OMR. The restaurant looks quite old fashioned with a lot of celebrity pics from yesteryear lining the walls leading to the restaurant at the 1st floor. Even the 1st floor walls are decorated with so many such pictures and lighting is very dim for such a place trying to showcase those pictures. Coming to food, the day I went seemed to be off day with only 1 more table occupied apart from ours. Hence the delivery was quick and the food was served hot. I felt this place is little over priced for the service quality. Overall average experience and not much to reminiscence.
1. We had a very good time if you have a baby this place caters for that with a baby chair. 2. Excellent ambience and they have a good selection of books and magazines so you can spend some leisure time here reading books, enjoying the ambience and good music not too loud. 3. The food was delicious we ordered tandoori chicken, chicken steak sizzler(served with spaghetti) both of them were well prepared. You will be satisfied with the preparation of continental and infian starters. The mutton wr ordered was bit overcooked(not much of a problem compared to undercooked which are served in some places) 4. The staff specially the manager Anish were very friendly, the only problem was the food here is slightly over priced. 5. They dont serve liquor. When asked they informed that they have applied for the license and hopefully by October you may be able to grab some drinks. Overall it was an excellent experience with the family.
Located confidently along east coast road. The restaurant has a boutique setting on the ground floor and spacious dining on second floor. Decor is interesting and whimsical. Service is excellent. The food is really good and have one of the best chicken briyani and tandoori chicken I have tried. Thumbs up!
Celebrities have found a new career calling besides for what they are already famous for. Singers are becoming actors, chefs are becoming reality TV hosts, cricketers are turning writes and all of them are becoming restauranteurs. Food has become a universal passion. Everyone likes to eat but some take it a little further and cook. Celebrities have joined the race to try their hand in the gastronomy field by investing their name and money in restaurants. Many celebs have attached their names to various classy restaurants and Chennai too has been left touched by this trend. ‘Godka by Simran’ is the new name to join the celeb-starrer bandwagon by opening a charming eatery in Sholinganallur area. The restaurant falls near to Akkarai Water Tank Junction on East Coast Road and is operational the entire day. The name surprisingly has nothing to do with divine intervention or vodka.
The restaurant is best known as former Tollywood actress’s Simran Bagga’s arrival into the gastronomy world. It’s located just above the actress’s fashion boutique which you can explore between meals. Upon entering you may be expecting a glamourous bling kind of décor but it’s refreshing to find it simple and classy. Interiors create a subtle balance between artsy and chic. Heavy polished wooden tables dominates the scene, gleaming underneath the crystal chandeliers which happen to be the only indulgence in glam factor. Rest of the room is split between the warm brown tones and soft mint green to act as a relief. Restaurant is generously spacious and cosy. Skip the formal tables and take up the sofas in the corner to be more comfortable. Godka by Simran has an elegant, appealing and cosy sort of ambience.
Food is another of their key factor. Menu is a mouth-watering compilation of North-Indian, Seafood, Continental and Chinese cuisines. Length is quite extensive and detailed. It’s pocket-friendly too which is an added blessing. Stuffed mushroom, drums of heaven, chicken banjara tikka, hand breaded calamari, dragon king prawn, paneer nawabi tikka, crispy vegetables, pla tod nam prik pow, Chongqing chicken satay, fish phadi kebab and mutton boti kebab, will serve you as first course. Excite your palate further with a range of delicious mains which features, curries, Chinese gravies, noodles, flatbreads, biryanis and grilled seafood. For a sweet adieu opt for shahi tukra, mango mud cake, honey glazed noodles, gulab jamun with ice cream and strawberry panna cotta.
