The restaurant that first introduced India to authentic Chinese cuisine, the crown jewel of Chennai’s fine dining scene for decades and perhaps, Taj’s most successful restaurant chain (with an outpost in Taj Krishna, Hyderabad and the original in Taj Mahal, Bombay) - Golden Dragon has already cemented its place in Indian dining’s Hall of Fame. Everything on the menu is outstanding. Chef Ho Chun Kee (thankfully, also known as Chef William) has put in some effort in making the cuisine more accessible, with a slew of vegetarian dishes and an unusually large selection of desserts (including sugar-free options for the Diabetes capital of India). My favourites are 'Peking Duck', 'Har Gao', 'Sliced Lamb' and the 'Litchi Ice Cream' with basil seeds.
I particularly enjoyed the dimsum here this time it was very delicious. All the staff were very courteous and helpful particularly our waiter Mr. Benjamin was very helpful he was very helpful and made sure we were comfortable in the hotel. Overall a must visit place
Great food and Service as usual ! Mr. Benjamin was particularly attentive and courteous. We particularly enjoyed the Peking Duck
My husband and I have been staying at the Coromandel for over 9 years and this is my favourite restaurant in Chennai, the Chef Balan Venkatesan came and saw us on our last visit which gave me a chance to say how much I enjoy the flavours and the ambiance of the restaurant. Keep up the good work.
I stayed at Taj Coromondal and had dinner at the restaurant. Excellent staff, good choice of cuisine. Although the food is Indianised fusion, I liked dumplings as well as both rice and noodles. Sauce was just right. Overall enjoyed the experience.
Golden Dragon serves possibly one of the best Chinese food in town. The ambience is attractive; service courteous & attentive and food authentic Chinese - not the greasy, spicy Indo-Chinese dishes most restaurants dish out. The Dim Sum deserves special mention. A few negatives : the portions are rather small and not as they used to be; the restaurant does not serve complimentary Chinese Tea - which is an integral part of any Chinese meal and served in any Chinese restaurant across the world.
Chinese cuisine has found its way through the centuries by its bag of flavours that has wrapped itself around our hearts. The cuisine first took root decades ago when Chinese expats took refuge in our country, bringing along with them a treasure trove of delicious recipes. It wasn’t long when we started tweaking the cuisine to suit our palates, creating a branch of this cuisine as our own. Few restauranteurs saw potential in the fare and launched the cuisine in grand style, paving way for restaurants we know today as legends. When talking about heavy-weights of Chinese food in Chennai, one cannot skip on ‘Golden Dragon’ which is responsible for popularising Chinese food in the country. This exceptional chain of restaurants is said to be Taj’s greatest hits. You will find on outpost of Golden Dragon in each of the hotel’s property.
Part of India’s culinary superstar club, Golden Dragon has become the epitome of Chinese food in the country. Chennai makes it its first choice, every time it has a craving for Chinese fare. Taj Coromandel, Nungambakkam is the place to be for a spectacular meal. As you walk in the restaurant, you will straight away notice the old-fashioned yet timeless appeal of the décor. It all seems classy and very elegant. A spacious well-lit room runs parallel to another sitting extension, offering the diners plenty of space to sit in. Formal round tables laden with lovely crystal ware gleams under the golden light thrown in by attractive modern lamps. Tiny enclaves are created to give the patrons some privacy when asked for. They form small dining rooms in their own right. Everything looks sophisticated, polished, grand and timeless.
Now coming to what Golden Dragon is actually famous for – food. Their menu is an enticing one, cleverly composed by keeping classic Chinese dishes on the menu. You will find some unheard of delicacies as well to make matters interesting. The bill may be expensive but it will be worth it. To explore the menu, the right way it’s best to begin with, chili coriander soup, spinach & golden garlic dim sum, crispy duck with micro greens salad, quick fried crab meat with eggs, Mongolian tenderloin, lotus root fritters with sweet chili dip and crispy prawns. The appetizers are delicious enough to feast at but save some space for the main course, for it is exquisite as well.
