An otherwise nondescript restaurant with dimly-lit interiors, Grillz shines bright through its tandoor. The menu spans across North Indian, Kerala, Thai and Chinese cuisines, but you can safely ignore the iffy service recommendations, and dive straight into the kabab platter.
After 6 months in India, severely delayed flight from Shirdi, traffic jams, plus many mundane grinds later, we arrived in Grillz just hoping for a very decent meal to conclude our India experience. Being absolutely physically and mentally battered, we just wanted a peaceful, quiet and decent meal Little did we knew that, the impeccably attentive services, plus the silky smooth perfectly done meal, plus Ramalinga-ji (Rama-ji's) life store will leave me almost welled up in tears. The Kerela fish curry - I have yet to find any curry that is done to such immaculate perfection. Simple and not elaborate, but the flavors is of perfect balance and the fish completely silky smooth. The Shrimp Kebab - Just roasted enough to feel the oven, yet not so charcoal to leave a sting. While it is easy to flavor shrimp, it is an art form in itself, to roast the shrimp to a perfect suppleness, yet leaving a hint of al dente. Grillz's chef nailed it to the point. Being a Hong Kong native, when I ordered an Oriental fried rice, I downgraded my expectation to the fast-food style Chinese-Indian cuisine ubiquitous across India... Boy, what a pleasant surprise! Not only was the portion exceptionally generous, but the flavor mastery of the fried rice is so accurate that, if I blind fold myself and put in a good ear plug, I could easily be in a good restaurant in Hong Kong or Singapore. It is THAT good. Jigarthanda - I shall say no more. While such a wholesome meal, I was already boarder line full. But I need to find a space after such a treat. It lived up to the expectation. No more words required expect a giant burp. Even after almost 1 month, I can still vividly recalled the taste memory in Grillz! This is the experience Ramalinga-ji, with his decades of service excellent managing national hotel chain, bought to us on the table. Thank you, Grillz, Ramalinga-ji and the crew, for giving us a perfect completion towards our India experience. Grillz, for me, a synonym of what India is capable of, when the heart, mind and spirit dedication to purity of service excellent. Jai Hind! :)

There are so many restaurants that are rather simple on the eyes but end up amazing you with their lovely food. What they lack in vibrancy and appeal, they more than make up for it in flavour. They may not stand out on anyone’s style quotient but they do have loyal fan base, which keeps them going strong. Located in Injambakkam on East Coast Road is a fantastic place which deserves all the attention it can get. You might miss it due to its nondescript exteriors but let us tell you, once you dine at ‘Grillz’ you have a favourite for life. The restaurant is especially popular with large groups of diners which includes local families and corporate groups. It’s frequently visited by regulars who pops in anytime for their delicious fix.
From the outside Grillz doesn’t look like much. Its fashioned like a standalone restaurant surrounded by a patch of green lawn where one can throw a small party or have a little celebration. It’s popular on the breezy Chennai days and gets filled quickly so call ahead to book a table. Grillz even holds live sports screening outside for those who are there for just games and beer. At the inside, Grillz has kept the interiors modern looking. Colours chosen are dark and earthy but it doesn’t seem too dull. Ask your server to lead you to the veranda so you have best of both worlds. The restaurant lays out a pretty mean buffet. Opt for that to save yourself the headache of going through the a la carte menu and save yourself some moolah.
Grillz is quite budget-friendly which is why it is so popular with the large group of diners. Their menu is versatile and covers a lot of base from North-Indian, Chinese, Thai to Arabian. Indulge freely in their wide selection of appetizers which features munchies like, Thai roasted chilli chicken, volcano prawn, murgh shorba, machli tikka, aloo naazakhat, crabmeat soup, pan fried momos, wok tossed squid, Thai chilli mushroom, belmet fish, gosht kakori kebab, malai paneer, murgh abu chilli kebab, mushroom in Cantonese style, drums of heaven, Singapore chilli crab and hot basil vegetables. The main course section is a heady mix of assorted curries in different styles. Finish strong with gajar ka halwa, brownie with ice-cream or gulab jamun or simply slurp on a delicious milkshake.
