A Must-Visit for Bold Flavors and Cozy Vibes!
If you are looking for a dining spot that combines a cool, cozy ambience with a menu that doesn’t hold back on flavor, Kim Ling is the place to be. The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed evening out.
We started our meal with a variety of soups. The Lemon Coriander Soup had a wonderful spicy kick, while the Hunan Wonton Soup was perfectly tangy. A standout surprise was the Thukpa; it was very tangy and possessed a unique, comforting rasam-like flavor that was unlike any version I’ve had before.
For the mains, the Thai Garlic Mixed Fried Rice was impressively subtle, providing a gentle base for the bolder dishes. The Governor Chicken was a highlight—just the right amount of spicy and packed with savory goodness. However, the absolute winner of the night was the Garlic Prawn. The prawns were fresh and flavorful, but the accompanying dip was truly awesome and tied the whole dish together beautifully.
Overall, Kim Ling offers a fantastic culinary experience with distinct, punchy flavors. Whether you want something spicy, tangy, or subtle, this place delivers. I’ll definitely be returning for those prawns!

Kim Ling, Speciality Chinese Restaurant is supposedly one of Chennai’s oldest and well known Chinese restaurants.

Apparently, the place has seen better days. But for now, it’s just another ordinary 'Chinese' wannabe. Nothing special about it.

The restaurant is located in the basement of an old commercial complex. If you go to the washroom which is located behind the building and outside (like a servants' washroom) on the ground level, you get a top-down view of their modest kitchen !

The décor and interiors were garishly "Chinese". The place was as dim lit as a shady nightclub (the restaurant could/should do with better lighting). The seating was cramped and inconvenient – at least in the booth where we were seated by the wall. The food taste was nothing to write home about. The service was underwhelming.

Overall, Kim Ling may have been the restaurant of choice for the guests of yore. But certainly no more.

(Well, as you probably guessed this is not a paid for guest review, but a rather genuine one !!)

Food taste is nice here. The restaurant is at the basement of the building. Tried KimLing Thai Fried Rice, medium spicy which tasted good and Singapore noodles sweet and tangy taste. Full of families with all age groups visits here. Ambience is not upto the level as the room is dark with minimal ceiling lights. Service is fine.

Speciality Chinese restaurant with an old world ambience - Chinese lanterns ,wall hangings etc ...dimly lit ,can accomodate @50 ...bit cramped & noisy ! Dragon chicken was ok nothing extraordinary ....Thai fried rice was a bit oily and ok with generous portion ,panner gravy was mild with soft pieces - just ok in taste ! Veg hakka noodles were a bit oily ,though good portion .. overall service taste quality is just ok nothing special or tasty ...rates are a bit pricey for the fare ....

What we loved:
The service was truly outstanding — very attentive and professional. The waiting time was well managed, and everything was neatly planned. The starters were absolutely delicious and definitely the highlight of our meal! We ordered bamboo rice and prawn rice, which were served well.
What could be better:
The fried rice was a bit bland for our taste, and unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy it much because of that. Also, the AC could use some servicing as the cooling was not sufficient.
Overall, a very good place for starters and service. With a few improvements, it can become perfect!

I had dinner here . Taste was very good . All subtle flavours and all dips were also good .
We had burnt garlic chicken noodles apt amount of spice and flavours nothing overpowering . Steamed momos was good along with 2 dips and governor chicken which was bit over priced for its taste but not bad.
Overall subtle flavours and excellent service by all the people out there and ambience is also very calm .

I have been going to Kimling Chinese Restaurant since my childhood. The food is always good and they have maintained the same taste over the years.
I usually try their sweet corn soup and manchow soup – both have an authentic taste. For starters, we go for momos, which are very good. Their fried rice with gravy is top notch and a must try.
Service is good and overall it’s an underrated Chinese restaurant. Definitely worth visiting.

We had a variety of dishes and every single one of them was so good. The ambience was good and the service was excellent. Must definitely try if you’re going with family or friends. The music was enjoyable and we had a great time there. Highly recommend the prawn dishes.

We also celebrated a friend’s birthday. The staff were really polite.
