Little Italy, as the name suggests, offers an array of authentic Italian and Mexican delicacies. The place boasts of its modern, elegant and spacious interiors with stylish furnishings and décor. Also, it is quite spacious with a comfy seating area. Begin your gastronomic trip here with ‘Fonduta’ or ‘Ravioli Crocante’ – fried ravioli stuffed with roasted peppers and cheese. You can also try a steaming hot ‘Crema Di Funghi’. For the main course, you must opt for their lip-smacking pasta-like ‘Alla Arrabiata’, ‘Pasta Barbaresca’ or a wood-fired ‘Pizza Mellino’.
Italian food satisfies each of our cravings by being smooth or crispy in texture at one sitting, on the other hand it can be savoury or sweet too. Italian food is full of contradictions. It can evoke feeling of comfort with bowlful of pasta and can delight your inner child with scoop of delectable gelato. It’s been rightly voted as ‘world’s best food’, a fact strengthened by its immense popularity all over the globe. It can be decadent and healthy all at the same time. Italian food is not limited to pizzas and pastas. Over the years we have come to know this cuisine fully by indulging in it more deeply. Chennai is the prime example of how we have grown to love this cuisine. The city is home to many famous Italian eateries and one of them is ‘Little Italy’, a quintessential Italian brand.
Little Italy is name recognisable by most of the foodies, such is its popularity. Chennai alone have multiple outlets of this superb brand placed in various corners of the city. Décor wise you will notice Little Italy at East Coast Road has not much to offer. They have kept the interiors simple with unvarnished exposed brick walls and dark brown tiled floor. While it may not be striking in any way, it’s not dull as well. Furniture is ideally chosen for comfort and style. Formal tables are accompanied by dark brown leather chairs, adding to their style quotient in a subtle manner. Each table is placed in a semi partition so diners feel a sense of seclusion. Ask your server to seat you next to the window, they are the best seats in the house.
To the delight of the vegetarians, Little Italy follows a complete vegetarian menu. It’s not cheap but it’s not too expensive either. Start by ordering yourself a nice refreshing drink like a fruit punch or ice tea. Then comes antipasti or as we call it – appetizers. Try out, cheese fondue, special crostini, bruschetta al Pomodoro, Caesar salad, arancini alla siciliana, crespelle, melanzane alla parmigiana, Pomodoro minestrone, pale di potato and herbs garlic bread with cheese. Take the next step with assorted pizzas or pastas such as, pasta pummarola, risotto al funghi porcini, pizza Napoli, pasta all ricotta, pizza nawabi, cannelloni alla florentina and lasagne alla napoletana. Finish the meal with classic Italian desserts, tiramisu or panna cotta.
