  • Madras Pavilion’s spread is sumptuously expansive and its service, genuine; but unlike sister restaurants at the Grand Chola, the food is neither best-in-class, nor particularly memorable. Idlis, eggs, bakes and amp; breads, soups and roasts are all above par
  • The breakfast filter coffee ritual is truly theatrical: a veshti-clad bearer will enthusiastically pour filter coffee back and forth across a height of over a metre, while beaming at you with the practiced smile of a seasoned performer. Keep a camera handy
  • Even though the Madras Pavilion and #39;s floor space matches upto ITC Grand Chola standards, during peak hours (like breakfast) things get a little too buzzy. Sit away from the island kitchen and towards the corners to escape the hubbub

Ensconced in a regal atrium amidst spectacular chandeliers, Madras Pavilion falls right in with the grand ITC design scheme; however in the light of nine other dining options at this massive hotel, some of which are trendsetting pioneers, it does not try hard enough to prevent being overshadowed. At some moment during a chaotic buffet meal, as you sidestep patrons and try to flag bearers amidst the din for an odd dish that is nearly forgotten, the grandeur around Madras Pavilion can seem exasperatingly transient.
