As you walk down to the basement-level Velveteen Rabbit, it is hard to not wonder if there is more to see around a corner. The Thadanis (who also run L'amandier upstairs and Ciclo Café) have consciously sized and dressed this pub to resemble a plush living room. Most of their 35 covers are large settees plied with board games and there is no entry/cover policy; making it an unambiguous option to drop by for a drink and chat. I like to sit at the bar, watching the adept barmen play around with fresh homemade flavours and fun props. My picks include the scotch based Sherlock and Watson and the cutesy wine and gin fire truck. The raspberry and rhubarb margarita looses out to frozen fruit while the chilli-heavy the spinning top lives up to its warning. Go and experiment, the cocktails do not attract import liquor prices here and nearly everything is well balanced.
