Seafood is one of my passions. There is nothing I like more than a plateful of fried fish or buttery garlic prawns on a bed of crispy salty onions. Thankfully for me, I get to indulge in my love ample of times because of my current address which is Chennai. The city has an amazing unbroken coastal line and has proudly one of the longest beaches in Asia. Being blessed with such an excellent coastal line the city gets an abundant bounty of seafood. The chefs with such marvellous produce at their disposal excels themselves by combining their regional culinary magic with the succulent seafood and produce mind-blowing dishes. ‘Thoondil’ at Akkarai is a charming little getaway tucked into a green pocket of tranquillity. The restaurant is a casual sort of place where you can go with your family to let your hair down and unwind. The ambience of Thoondil is serene mainly courtesy to the lovely green surroundings it’s nestled in. The USP of the restaurant is its outdoor setting where the entire restaurant is laid out in a large garden. Sturdy furniture fashioned out of heavy rough wood is placed around the garden in various nooks and corners. Few large huts are erected about the garden to house the sitting area. If you want privacy opt for a secluded corner which they have plenty of. On the day Chennai’s weather is behaving well, dining at Thoondil can be a complete delight. They have managed to bring the tranquillity in by adding a peaceful statue of Buddha right at the centre of the garden. A cool birdbath is flanked by ducks frolicking in the garden, something the kids adore. The restaurant is perfect for families and for casual romantic evenings with a loved one.Seafood is Thoondil’s forte but they also deal into North-Indian and Chinese cuisine. A budget-friendly place, the restaurant has a mouth-watering menu. Start with, chilli fish, paneer 65, crab lollypop, finger fish, brown clam, prawns ghee roast, Singapore lobster, mushroom pepper fry, squid chilli, chilli baby corn, kalmi kebab and paneer hariyali tikka. Save some space for the main course which features dishes like, hot pot rice with black bean sauce, crab roast, palak paneer, fish tikka masala, mutton varutha curry, butter chicken masala and crab kofta curry. The menu is cleverly composed and is filled with lip-smacking variety.
Special Deals and Offers in Thoondil, East Coast Road (ECR), Chennai
The beautiful green pockets of Tamil Nadu should be enjoyed thoroughly when one has the chance.
