For quite some time now, with the Asian wave, Italian restaurants in Chennai seem to be disappearing and even the ones in star hotels are a pale comparison to their counterparts in other cities. But 10 years after making a mark in Bangalore, Chef Gautam finally brings Toscano to his home town. Going all guns blazing, Toscano has set up the trattoria with a great ambience, one that makes the city dress up for dinner, which is a rarity here. The menu has everything one could hope for in an upmarket place. If the 'Smoked Chicken Pizza' is anything to go by, Toscano bakes great bread, as is evident by the fantastic sourdough base that the lovely chicken rests on with the right dose of cheese and pesto. While pizzas and pastas are great, the second course does not take a back seat here. Service is attentive and the waiters appear to know the dishes well enough to recommend based on your preferences.
