  • There is no smoking lounge - you will have to pop into a smoking room outside or in Cheroot
  • The staff will happily make you classics on request, though Cheroot is a better option for robust Manhattans and sours. There is live music on the weekends, check ahead, though
  • Tranquebar was a Dutch outpost on the Coromandel Coast, a few hours down from Pondicherry. The Dutch Fort by the Bay has now been converted into a Neemrana hotel

Conceptualised as a breezier counterpart to Cheroot, the malt and cigar lounge next door, Tranquebar is an elegant package of just as much swank and class. Cocktails are the stars here and jovial ladies behind the bar will ably whip a selection of signature (though slightly decadent) concoctions. The don of the east seems like a perfect libation on a summer evening; Tini-fans should try the martini flight of three.
