If you are looking for a Mediterranean themed dinner with a distinct Middle Eastern vibe, the newly-opened Baris, nestled among a bevy of restaurants in the choc-a-bloc Masjid Moth shopping complex in GK-II is your best bet. Spread over two levels (the first-floor indoor dining area and the terrace lounge), Baris will whisk you into the sun-drenched Mediterranean landscape in the blink of an eye. Before you embark on your food tour, do feast your eyes on the sprawling interiors of the restaurant, jazzed up by the delicate wall art that is reminiscent of the blue Iznik pottery tradition of Turkey. In fact, Iznik pottery coasters placed on your table echo the décor in a powerful way. Food items listed on the menu run the gamut from the zesty Zuppa de Mare (bursting with the freshest of seafood) to the bright crimson beetroot labneh (roasted red beets and garlic mashed with labneh or strained yoghurt). Winding your way around the menu, you will also come upon Hummus bin Dujaj, which is an aromatic spice-crusted chicken on baked hummus that’s served with lavash crostini. Other hearty listings of the menu include the Turkish staple Adana Kabab, where ground lamb meat is wrapped around metal skewers and grilled over charcoal, as well as Balik (fish) Kabab and Kuzu Incik (pomegranate and tomato roasted lamb shank served over saffron rice and grilled vegetables). While Crema Di Chocolate, the rich chocolate and raspberry dessert, is the perfect answer to your sugar fix, do not look beyond the sinful Baklava Duo if you are craving true flavours of the Mediterranean.
