They used to say everyone has a Chonas memory in Delhi. After all, it endeared for over two decades in Khan Market before shutting shop in 2015. Such was the popularity of Chonas that when it re-opened in Meherechand Market this year they didn’t bother changing anything. Its bright, brick & wood interiors are cheerfully functional. The same could be said about Chonas’ menu which spans Punjabi staples to Italian carbs and Chinese sizzlers. Our 'Fish Fillet Sizzler' had an iron plate piled with Basa, skinny McCain fries, serving of fried rice and a mish-mash of cabbages, beans, babycorn, carrot and broccoli. The 'Chili Prawns' featured large juicy prawns fried and tossed in soy and chili sauce with generous helpings of finely diced bell peppers, carrots and onions. We rounded off the meal with an unpretentious 'Chicken Club Sandwich' - supermarket brown bread, slightly dry chicken breast, bacon, fried egg, cheese slices and the works served with coleslaw and fries.
