Insider Tips

  • The music is 1950’s pop – Dion and the Belmonts, The Shirelles etc. ---- but when it suddenly fast-forwards to funk, this means that the staff are getting ready to dance. The dance is fun and much loved by patrons whose shoulders start moving to the music on autopilot
  • The original Johnny Rockets burger may have been great but the mutton version is tough. Far better to have the masala version, named after the National Highway. (They should have called it Route Sixty Sikh)
  • The menu goes beyond burgers to include hot dogs (chicken, of course) and pastas in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian (chicken!) flavours

Critic Rating

Vir's Verdict Chief Editor & Lead Critic

If the classic 1950s, American diner had been invented in Ludhiana, then this would be it. An international menu of diner favourites is Punjabified by throwing out all the interesting meats and putting chicken in everything --- even the chilli! It may have made some sense to call the chain Johnny Kukkad in India. That said, the outlets are clean and functional and the staff are friendly and cheerful. If you have kids, they will like it. The experience is better than the food.

This was our third and last visit. Cholera is no joke. Poor food handling

It took me a couple of weeks to decide to write this as this is my first bad review. I first visited this Johnny Rockets in January and I was pleasantly surprised with the taste and quality of the food. In March our family went back with some friends and they did not get the orders quite right. Del that was no big deal I said as we were a big group. Even the fact that the toilets were not working and someone had left a number 2 in the urinal did not deter me. In August I went back with my 3 sons on a Sunday evening. The flies, dirty floors and tables agian did not deter us. We placed our order and when the milkshakes arrived they told my youngest they were out of the chocolate peanut milkshake. They told him he could order a mango. He asked was was available and the Oreo milkshake was the 3rd item mentioned. So he ordered it. About 10 minutes later the manager comes and says they do not have Oreo milkshakes but they have mango. Then he continued to through his staff under the bus; "The waiter is new and should not have said that." When the food arrives, instead of masala fries we got onion rings. Upon asking we were told they were out of fries. My youngest specifically ordered a burger without cheese, and it had a big blob of melted cheese on it. My oldest (20 years) ordered the special veg. Burger and he did say that it was not as good as the previous times. Around 9pm that evening he started having serious stomach problems. The next day after a night on the toilet the embassy medical unit tested him and found that he had contracted cholera. (Improper and dirty food handling). After a hospital visit and 3 days to recover he vowed never again. Wrong orders, basic dishes not available and a super dirty establishment. I agree you do no mess with people's health when you are in the food industry and represent a US Franchise.

Decent place for a juicy burger

I visited this restaurant with my friends for a quick bite. The service was prompt and our burgers arrived quickly. They were nice and juicy. Overall, the place is great for a burger fan but there are many more compelling options at the same price.

Chill out place!

We were looking for some place to hang out and came across this place after reading reviews. We ordered Ceaser Salad, Burger and Cock. Place to clean and staff were helpful. Ordered was little delayed so they offered French fries. That was so nice of them. Will like to visit again

Must try place

In love with their burgers and shakes..ordered #12 and Houston and both burgers were amazing...all of their shakes are good... service is amazing..even though the outlet was crowded it took 10-12 minutes for the order to get ready..their fries are one of the best fries but they put loads of vinegar in salad which is one drawback..

Went for a evening snacks with a friend... went for the the spicy Houston with lamb patty along with cold coffee ... the cold coffee was perfect served with cream.... the burger was served with french fries and ketchup... would have appreciated if it was served with some dip... the burger was delightful....
