Rupali Speaks Food & Travel writing

The ambience breaks away from the clichéd interiors allied with Indian cuisine restaurants as it decodes Indian street food cuisine into a stylish, contemporary setting with warm service. The best way to start a meal here is with the crazy ice cocktails, I tried my fair share but settled on a firm favourite – the chilli aam masala. A delicious mix of vodka, mint leaves, mango, fresh lime juice, chaat masala, black salt and a green chilly crazy ice. Chakhna aka the perfect pre-nibble, priced at 125 to 225 designed to absorb the first drink and to dally with while deciding on an order includes the likes of chicken 65 and Maharashtrian sabudana wada with thetcha, quite like birdseed for the imbiber. The kathal dum masala is a super-spicy but a decadent dish. A cooler, healthier contrast is gobhi mussalum also cooked on slow, calm and enduring fires. Best of the main course I tried is the nalli boti ki nehari, a long-cooked stew served with the marrow bone and a basket of rotis, that torn up makes the perfect scoop to transport the meat into the mouth. Do not miss this one, which goes way yonder drink-accompanying food. Finishing up with the beetroot halwa with vanilla ice-cream is a good idea, it is soft and topped with a crunchy pistachio and is deliciously divine.

Totally unprofessional hotel

It was my birthday and had pre-booked meal for 5 people. I reached at stipulated time, table was not ready.Mentioned menu was not provided and choices available were also not given. Even after pre-booking the food arrived quite late.Food is average and the cost doesn't justify. Service was too bad. When i called the manager even he talked very very rudely about this.I could tell that was because of his prejudices against bunch of 5 young boys going around. Had it been a couple or the family they would have treated well. This was totally discriminatory. There's a club adjoining this hotel and it gets pretty shady at night. You will be ashamed to go with family over there. In all, hopeless place.

Mughlai Food

Khaaja Chowk has a differentiated and colourful ambience. The food is good, especially the non-vegetarian gravies.

Not so Special

When we arrived at the restaurant, it was empty (around 8pm), all others on the same floor had waiting. The first thing that came to my mind was "Are we at the right place?". But anyways we went ahead and were seated. We ordered for starters and later for the main course. Overall the food quality was not upto the mark (Our dish was replaced with new one, but even that was not appropriate). This quality was not expected for the reputation this name has. Although the service was good (may be cause there was no else to serve). Would suggest if restaurant can better the food quality and not serve stale food. We get to know if its STALE.

Awesome but bit overpriced experience

What we ordered:Cheese chilli seekh - 4/5Mungfali raste wali - 3/5Chicken tikka - 3/5Dahi kebab- 5/5Khaaja Chowk special paneer - 5/5Naan and roti - 4/5Freshly prepared food was served to us and taste was awesome. They can work on increasing the quantity of the portions as with less it looks like an overly priced menu but your staff took good care of usThanksChhavi and Saurabh Sundariyal

Nice food and ambience

I have been going to this restaurant since last 3 years and I have been liking the food rhey offer. The last visit however had some misses, dal makhani was a bit spicy with little more of garam masala. Ice cream offered were melted, no clue why. Neither I bothered to complaint to waiter. Lasyly guys why r u still charging service charge, it's banned as per ggovt. Would have been better if you would have removed service charge.

About Khaaja Chowk, MGF Metropolitan Mall, MG Road

When talking about North Indian restaurants, your mind is instantly filled with clichéd images of subdued elegant spaces lit by crystal chandeliers and furnished in soft delicate hues. The youth of today however prefers a more eclectic space, enlivened by colours and quirky designs. Let go of the formal dining conventions and look towards the playful and fun loving side of Indian gastronomy. This is the funda which ‘Khaaja Chowk’ swears by. This cheerful quirky chain of restaurants is loyal to MG road area, both their outlets being on the same busy route. The one we are talking about presides on the third floor of MGF Metropolitan Mall, Gurgaon. The ambience breaks away from the stereotypical character associated with North Indian restaurants and targets for a more playful look. The restaurant is mostly invaded by those who have a hankering for delicious Indian food.

The menu of Khaaja Chowk is a fun one and tackles the Indian cuisine in a fresh new way. It is smattered with North Indian, Mughlai, South Indian and Rajasthani cuisines, paying a special homage to tangy Indian street fare. Food is pretty reasonable in prices so feel free to indulge. Chakhana or as they term their appetizers section features dishes like, sabudana wada, chicken 65, khurmi naan, nawabi murgh seekh masala, Mylapore idli medley, Hazratganj ke galawati kababs, hara bhara kabab, mutton seekh kabab, gongura paneer tikka, desi papad nachos and palak patte ki chaat. Opt for a crazy iced cocktail to marry your appetizers. Curry leaf tall, imli cosmo, paan supari martini and chilli aam masala is a good option. Further the evening with a delicious array of curries like, chicken lababdar, paneer makhani, rogan josh, makhmali kofta curry, biwi ki dal tadkedaar and Kashmiri dum aloo.

Add some exclusivity to your sweet course with beetroot halwa, paan ice cream, gol matol shahi tukda and gulab jamun flambe. Khaaja Chowk is designed in a very eye-catching and appealing way with an exposed brick white wall setting off a bright patterned furniture. Small tables and cosy red booths gleam under the pale golden glow of this dimly lit room. There are plenty of good dining options including an open tempo which acts like a quirky booth to sit in. Interiors are casual, cheerful, attractive, colourful and eccentric. The space is meant for friends and loved ones to relax in and have a good time.
