On a good day, it can be very good, celebrating as it does the food of Punjab: rustic, hearty and appealing. The standouts on the menu include the Beetroot Kanji (which has a longer season than black carrots), Salmon Tikka and Rahra Meat. Vegetarians are looked after too, albeit not with the same enthusiasm as their meat-eating counterparts: Rawalpindi Chana is standard issue chana without the bells and whistles of, say, kadhai murgh.
The beauty of Punjabi food lies in its down-to-earth wholesome curries and the creamy nuance of the flavours. It is one of the most popular cuisines in India and can be relished throughout the country, be at humble dhabas or the snazzy five star restaurants. Punjabi food is always a good idea and if you are looking for some rich thick curries then there is nothing better. It may sound like a pretty unpretentious kind of cuisine but it is not easy to master. It takes a very refined palate with a sharp sense of balance to get the flavours right. When talking about masters of Punjabi cuisine, one can’t help but mention the very popular ‘Punjab Grill’, a trendy and posh version of this humble gastronomy. The restaurant has quickly climbed the success charts after its arrival not so long ago.
Being a swanky popular place, Punjab Grill can be found at all the top locations including, Select Citywalk Mall in Saket, South Delhi. The restaurant enjoys an elegant and classy façade of off white colour, carrying a distinct logo of a lion. The entire room is done in pale soft tone of white, with dark wooden chairs lending the much needed contrast. Dining room is given a formal look, each table laden with attractive crystal ware. Furnishings are subtle, posh, eye-catching and classy in every way. Spacious interiors look all the more airy due to large picture windows on one side of the restaurant. Everything is done in a delicate and tasteful way. Punjab Grill is a hub of foodies who often drop by for a hearty Punjabi fare no matter the pricey bill.
As Punjab Grill is a little expensive place, it’s wise to opt for their buffet spread, which showcases a wonderful variety of dishes for an economical price. But if you like to control your menu then browse through the a la carte. Accompanied by the infamous Patiala peg tuck into the delicious appetizers such as, raan-e-sikandari, paneer tikka multani, murgh malai tikka, bharwan khumb peshawari, chaamp tajdar, dahi ke kebab, raunaqeen seekhan and tandoori pomfret. Their starters section is impressive but save some appetite for the main course which entails, Patiala shahi kadhai paneer, meat Punjab grill, martaban de charba aloo, dhaniya mirchi da kukkad, amritsari malai kofta and kadhai jheenga. Definitely indulge in their sweet course. It’s divine.
